What a wonderful way to end the school year, with a brilliant KS3 production of Guys and Dolls. The students' performances were an absolute joy to watch and listen to, and it was heart-warming to see them supporting each other with such confidence throughout. It was lovely, too, to see that the tech crew and stage crew were entirely made up of students. Productions like this only come together thanks to real commitment over time, along with the dedication and resilience needed for those trickier rehearsals and the not-so-easy job of learning lines! All that hard work truly paid off in two fantastic shows. Well done to everyone who took part or helped behind the scenes, and a special thank you to Ms Jordan and Mr Jay for guiding the whole cast and crew through auditions, rehearsals, and the final performances.

We also welcomed our annual African drumming experience for Year 7 this week. The sound of drumming echoing around the school felt perfectly in tune with the sunshine, and I have to say, I've loved the holiday-inspired rhythms — the perfect way to see out the term!

The Year 10 GCSE Music concert took place on Wednesday evening, and it was fantastic to see so much talent on display, with such a wonderful range of genres performed.

A huge congratulations to four of our Year 8 students, Ben, Edward, Finn and Ralphie, who travelled to Paris last weekend to represent their local football club, Windlesham FC, in an international tournament. They played brilliantly and were crowned Europa League Champions after winning the tournament at the PSG stadium in Paris. Very well done to them and the whole team!

It's been another busy and brilliant year at Charters. We've completed over 90 trips, more than 20 of them residential, run leadership development programmes, and remained the third-highest provider of Duke of Edinburgh's programmes in the South East of England.

We've also enjoyed 2 school productions, welcomed over 40 external speakers and providers into school, played over 171 sporting fixtures, taught 6,500 lessons, held 1 Summer Fayre, and sat over 160 exam papers. Students earned 169,234 achievement points against 37,412 behaviour points, a positive-to-negative ratio of roughly 4.5 to 1, whole-school attendance sits at 93.2% for the year, and we celebrated 100 House events, culminating in a fantastic Sports Day.

A summary of what's been going on this week...

Sports Day this year threw up an amazing number of new records.  Across Years 7-10 an incredible 17, yes 17, sporting records were broken!  Click HERE to see all of the outstanding triumphs that took place on Sports Day.  Well done to every one of our new record-holders

ENGLISH SCHOOLS COMPETITION

Well done to our students who were selected for the ESAA English Schools competition final held in Birmingham Alexander Stadium on Friday 10th and Saturday 11th July.  This is the pinnacle of school competitions and just making the final is an achievement in itself.

Year  13 Olly had an outstanding competition! He was crowned English Schools' U19 400m Hurdles Champion and set a new Championship Record, Bracknell AC Club Record & a PB of 54.03s – an incredible way to finish his school athletics career.

Our inter girls, Holly, Annabelle and Bethany did well in their fiercely competitive events with Holly narrowly missing out on a place on the podium coming 4th in the 300m.

Reuben who was our youngest competitor sadly broke his collarbone a few days before the championship and was unable to take part in the 1500m event.  We wish Reuben a very speedy recovery.

FOOTBALLING EXCELLENCE

Ben, Edward, Finn and Raphie, all in Year 8, recently travelled to France to represent their local football club, Windlesham FC, in an international football tournament. GOLFING CHALLENGE FOR ALZHEIMER'S

Arthur and Noah in Year 8 completed a hefty golf challenge last weekend.  They played 54 holes done in less than 12 hours for the Alzheimer’s Society. Undertaking the challenge in sweltering heat, they were dedicated and driven throughout.  We are extremely proud of this fantastic achievement our students have completed for a outstanding cause.

So far they’ve raised an amazing £1590 for the Alzheimer’s society, an achievement highlighted to the regional head of fundraising for the charity.  Arthur and Noah said how grateful they were to all who have supported their challenge. 

The donations the boys have raised so far could help the charity answer 215 calls on their Dementia Support Line and provide expert advice to people when they need it most. Coming to terms with a dementia diagnosis can be difficult but a call with trained Dementia Advisers can help put people on the right path after their diagnosis, providing answers, signposting to appropriate services, and being a listening ear when the emotions get too much.

HALF-MARATHON

Igor, our IT wizard is training to take part in the Maidenhead Half Marathon on Sunday 18 October to support the vital work of Alexander Devine Children's Hospice Service. The charity offers exceptional care to extraordinary children, ensuring they and their families receive physical, emotional, and practical support when they need it most.

To support their mission, I have set a target to raise at least a modest £300, which is double the suggested £150.

WHAT'S ON IN THE CORDES HALL, SUNNINGHILL

On Saturday 18 July, it’s our Movie & Meal night.  The movie will be ‘Elvis Presley in Concert’, a documentary directed by Baz Luhrmann and featuring restored 1970s Las Vegas footage and candid audio recordings.  It’s had rave reviews and basically it will be like going and seeing ‘The King’ in concert.  How cool is that!  The Meal will be what Elvis liked - southern fried chicken & chocolate! Let us know if you have food preferences.  The full bar will be open too.  Tickets only £20 (covering movie & meal) – this is a fundraising event for The Hub so there will be a raffle and the bar proceeds and ticket sales all go to the project fundraising.  Don’t know what The Hub is?  Come and find out.  We really hope to get your support for what is a huge community project. The Hope Church food share takes place each Tuesday from 12pm-1pm. 

The items include mainly fresh food and bakery items donated from local supermarkets. The food is at the end of its shelf life (but still perfectly fine to eat!) and would otherwise just go to waste. Bring a bag to fill up, stop for a chat and a cup of tea (and cake!!) and warm up in the church. ALL welcome, no voucher/referral required.
