Year 12 students were treated to an inspiring and thought-provoking workshop from motivational speaker Rich of Loud Speaker, following Daniel, Ridhi and Madhura's success in winning the session as part of their prize from the national Pitch Your Passion competition.

From the moment he stepped into the room, Rich brought infectious enthusiasm and humour, joking that his boundless energy came from "ADHD and sugar!" He immediately set the tone by asking every student to high-five the person next to them and tell them they were amazing – a simple but powerful reminder of the importance of encouraging one another.

Rich explained that his mission was to inspire young people to become the very best versions of themselves and to recognise just how valuable and capable they are. Reflecting on his own experiences growing up, he spoke honestly about repeatedly being told he wasn't "good enough, smart enough or quiet enough" and how, all too often, we become our own harshest critics.

Throughout the workshop, Rich reinforced the importance of creating an inclusive and respectful community. He made it clear that there is no place for xenophobia, homophobia, misogyny, Islamophobia or discrimination of any kind, encouraging students to celebrate differences and treat everyone with kindness and respect, regardless of their faith, sexuality, gender, race or background.

The interactive session encouraged students to "vote with their feet" as they considered a series of thought-provoking life choices. They explored what qualities really matter in relationships, choosing between different fictional partners whose looks, personalities and values varied significantly. Students were also challenged to consider whether they would rather have a lifetime of money, power or peace, prompting lively discussion about what truly leads to happiness.

Finally, Rich asked students to think about their futures. They voted on whether they already knew exactly what lay ahead, had a rough plan with uncertainty, or if they had no plans for the coming weeks, let alone the next 20 years. Rich was delighted that the overwhelming majority of students believed they had a clear sense of direction, praising their ambition and willingness to think ahead.

As the workshop drew to a close, Rich encouraged every student to embrace opportunities, strive to become the best version of themselves and avoid looking back with regrets over chances not taken. He ended with a powerful reminder from actor Robin Williams:

"Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about. Be kind. Always."

The workshop left students with plenty to reflect on and provided an uplifting message about self-belief, resilience and compassion.

Our sincere thanks go to Rich and everyone at Loud Speaker for delivering such an engaging and motivational workshop, and congratulations once again to the Sixth Form students whose success in the national competition made this valuable experience possible for their peers.
