At Charters School, we believe that some of the most memorable learning takes place beyond the classroom, and six of our Year 7 students recently experienced exactly that.

The students earned their place on a special visit to Ascot Racecourse after winning the Race to Zero sustainability workshop held at Charters in February. Their creative ideas and impressive presentation on how Ascot Racecourse could become even more sustainable secured them a well-deserved invitation to this celebration event alongside winning teams from other schools.

During the visit, students took part in a fascinating programme of talks exploring sustainability in action. They discovered how Ascot Racecourse is working to reduce its environmental impact and heard from experts about a range of sustainability initiatives, including the importance of biodiversity and the role of the racecourse's beehives in supporting local ecosystems.

A guided tour gave the students the opportunity to see the beehives first-hand and learn more about the vital contribution that bees make to the environment. It was an engaging and inspiring experience that brought many of the ideas they had explored in school to life.

The day proved to be a real highlight for the group, with one student describing it as "the best trip I've been on since joining Charters." Their enthusiasm and curiosity throughout the visit were a wonderful reflection of the positive attitudes to learning that we encourage across our school community.

We are incredibly proud of our students for representing Charters so well and congratulate them once again on their success in the Race to Zero workshop. Opportunities like these demonstrate the value of learning beyond the classroom, enabling students to deepen their understanding, broaden their horizons and see how their ideas can make a genuine difference in the world around them.

Well done to all involved, and thank you to Miss Hannah Follett for organising such a rewarding and memorable experience.
