News round up (4)

The Spring concert was another wonderful evening of music in school.  The talent we have in school is fantastic across all year groups.  The concert had students from each year group performing to a high standard.  As always it was not just the quality of music that caught the ear and eye but the supportive nature of the students, the teamwork and the camaraderie that performing together creates. Thank you to the performers, their families and of course the Music department for all the support and opportunities they give students from all year groups and across different genres of music.

SENIOR STUDENT TEAM 2024 – 2025

Mrs Hill has summed up the process that the candidates for the Senior Student team have been through these past few weeks:

As Head of Sixth Form, I have so much to be proud of and our search for a new Student Leadership Team is just one example of the outstanding calibre of students that attend Charters Sixth Form.

To gain a position as one of the Head Students is not for the faint hearted. A letter of application, followed by an interview and presentation ensure that students are put through rigorous process for selection. In my time running this process I have never been disappointed, and this year was no exception. Every student involved wrote an excellent letter, provided insightful responses to our demanding questions and the quality of their presentations was exceptional.

All of which made the decision-making process incredibly difficult. The current student team are instrumental in helping with the decision and actively participate in all aspects of the interview process.

A huge congratulations to all the students involved both as interviewer and interviewee everyone performed at the highest level.

We are just finalising the roles and responsibilities and will introduce them to the school and community next week.

MUFTI DAY - THURSDAY 28 MARCH
IN SUPPORT OF BRITISH RED CROSS

We are asking staff and students to wear something white for the mufti day on Thursday 28 March to signify the importance of peace and how humanitarian aid can help support individuals in conflict zones.

We are all aware of the ongoing humanitarian crisis that has been happening in the Middle East ,in particular the ongoing Israel-Gaza Conflict.  The British Red Cross is working with the International Committee of the Red Cross to support civilians on both sides of the conflict caught up in the terrible events and ongoing circumstances.  The appeal is providing basic humanitarian support for individuals as well as support with the transfer of hostages and psychological support for individuals and their families on return.

As a school community, we ask that our students be compassionate and understand that we should support individuals who have been, and continue to be, impacted by the horrific events of 7 October and the ongoing conflict as a result.  In raising money for the British Red Cross Israel and Occupied Palestinian Territory Appeal we recognise that civilians from all communities are suffering and we are showing our support for all.  The Red Cross is an impartial organisation supporting all and delivering support to families caught up in events that are not their doing but are impacting on them greatly.

Staff and Students can donate via the Charters School Just Giving Page, or students can bring cash in on Thursday which will be collected during tutor time.

One of the pillars that support our school ethos of Unit Respect Excellence is Compassion.  This week in assemblies we have focussed on the power of compassion how important it is for society to be compassionate and how at any individual level it can help improve individuals' wellbeing by supporting each other.

We also highlighted how in our school community compassion is important in understanding that everyone gets things wrong and need support.

After the Easter break, our focus will be on excellence, resilience, motivation and confidence as our young adults prepare of the summer's public examinations.

The Young Health Champions programme is an exciting opportunity for young people living or attending school in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead school years 9-12.  It involves young people learning about health and wellbeing, working with health professionals to improve services, and delivering health messages to the wider community. Young people who get involved will receive a level 2 'Young Health Champions' qualification accredited by the Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH). In addition, young people have experiences to add to their CV/UCAS application, develop a host of skills including communication and project planning, and are able to lead change in their community. Together As One (previously Aik Saath) has been delivering this programme for young people in Slough for the past 5 years and we are excited to be delivering this in RBWM this year.
