NEWSLETTER - 02 FEBRUARY

News round up (4)

Year 9 experienced the sounds and rhythms of the Caribbean, if not the weather, as they all took part in a Steel Pans workshop.  As the wind is blowing and the temperatures are low it is always wonderful to hear the uplifting melodies travel on the air, you can’t help but smile!  Staying with Year 9 we had a very well-attended online options evening at which staff explained the process and the information required to make these important decisions. Further information and advice can found here can be found HERE

We have continued our interviews with Year 11 students making applications to the 6th Form and have started interviewing our external candidates, it is always a pleasure to speak to these remarkable young people and understand what they are looking to do and importantly hear about what they are doing in their local communities to help others.

We will be promoting LGBTQ+ History Month in February.  It is incredibly important for us all to understand the contributions that individuals have made to the development of our society.   The theme this year is contribution to medicine.

MEDICINE - #UNDERTHESCOPE

The 2024 theme celebrates LGBT+ peoples’ contribution to the field of Medicine and Healthcare both historically and today.

SAVE THE DATE?

What was a fantastic opportunity to get the community together, a place to have loads of fun, buy yourself an unusual object, eat delicious food and even raise some money for the school? Well of course, it was last year's Summer Festival!

Due to the huge success of the event last summer, we will again be hosting a Summer Fair this year on Saturday 29 June from 12 - 4pm.  We cannot tell you all the details yet as we do not wish to spoil the surprise of another exciting event also taking place at this time, but all will be revealed soon.

In the meanwhile, if you are interested in having a stall in our Artisan Marketplace, please contact Gaynor Reid-Smith to express your interest, advising what type of craft you make/sell.

WHERE DID I PUT THAT?

Can't find your PE shorts, left your calculator in the classroom or lost your coat in the playground?  Do not worry - there will be a chance to reclaim any lost property on Wednesday 7 February at 2nd Break in The Wellness Centre.  Please come and have a look so that we can reunite these lost items with their owners!

READY, STEADY, BAKE!

Time to done that apron and get baking please to earn yourself lots of house Points in the House Valentine Bake Sale next Thursday 8 February.  We would love to have a whole variety of Valentine-themed baked goods to sell and raise money for the House Charities: Sebastian’s Action Trust, Jane Metson Foundation & Food4Children.  They can be big cakes, cookies, cupcakes, muffins, tarts, all ideally with a Valentine's Day vibe!  It would be amazing if everyone would please consider baking something to donate to the sale, and if baking is not your thing, we will happily accept shop-bought donations!

WE REQUEST PLEASE THAT ALL ITEMS ARE NUT FREE.

If you have chosen to bake or buy items suitable for other diets, vegan, vegetarian or gluten free – please let us know and label clearly.

On Thursday students can come and drop items to the Main Hall any time from 8am, please enter through School Reception if before 8.30am. If arriving after 8.30am students should please come to the double doors as they enter for assembly.

Now for the good stuff...buying the delicious donations at 2nd Break...

We are expecting the Bake Sale to be busy – we ask that students please arrive with coins and change for buying cakes and please be patient!

We will create a queueing system where students normally go into assembly, so they should please join the back of the line upon arrival. Students will be allowed in in small groups to purchase cakes and cookies and other sweet treats. They will exit through DS2.

There will be a one way system in place so please choose carefully!  Enjoy!
