HIGHLIGHTS ARE...

Being informed about a hearing-impaired student in Year 8 who participated in a presentation for Berkshire Sensory Consortium Service as part of Deafness Awareness week.   Gabbie joined the online session and spoke confidently about some of her experiences. She also answered questions put forward by a parent, offering advice and suggestions about the use of hearing aids. The members of the community on the call where very impressed with her openness and presentation skills, well done Gabbie for supporting the local hearing-impaired community.

Congratulation to the Year 12 Young Enterprise company who won the regional Teamwork Award at least nights Final.  They had to present to a panel of judges as well as answer questions on their business.  They also posted the highest revenue and gross net profit than any other team.  Well done on the whole team and thank you to all who have supported them on their journey.  You can read more on their story here.

GOLF SUCCESS

Congratulations to Matilde in Year 10 on her continued golfing success.  Surrey Golf magazine has recent written an article about her titled ‘ The One to Watch’.  Matilde plays off a +1 handicap which is amazing for someone so young.  Her recent successes have seen her finish up with pro golfers.  You can read about Matilde in our news section too and we wish her all the best for the forthcoming season.

EXTENDED SUBJECT READING

The following link has a list of subject specific reading that can really help individuals extend their understanding around subjects.  Each subject at Key stage 3 4 and 5 have offered suggestions to help students develop their reading skills and understanding of the subject.  This is part of our Speak like a Scholar approach in which we encourage students to obtain a wider understanding of the subject and use subject specific vocabulary.

DUKE OF EDINBURGH

Well done to the fifty students who completed their Duke of Edinburgh Award practice expedition in the New Forest on May bank holiday weekend.  You can read the full story in the News section below.

Forty seven students have also completed their Bronze Award. Completion of the Bronze Award shows a high level of persistence, and the students should be proud of their achievements. They will receive their certificates at an assembly next month and many of them are working hard on their Silver Award.

If your child has not finished their award and requires some help, please ask them to email c.taylor@chartersschool.org.uk and I will work through any outstanding sections with them

Can you please remind your children of the importance of filling up their water bottles during breaktimes.  They should not, at the end of a break when they are due in a lesson, be going to fill up their water bottles as this means they are late to, and disrupt the start of, the lesson.
