NEWSLETTER - 26th SEPTEMBER 2025
On Tuesday evening, we were delighted to welcome Year 7 parents into school for our curriculum evening. Families heard about how we support students in their learning and were shown useful areas of our website. Parents then had the chance to step into their children’s shoes and experience two lessons in the core subjects. Thank you to everyone who came along—it was wonderful to see so many of you.
This week in assemblies, the focus has been on careers education and the support available to students. Mrs Hicks, our Careers Advisor, spoke to each year group about how we can help them at different stages of their school journey. For example, Year 11 heard about preparing for mock interviews and planning for life after GCSEs, while Year 10 were introduced to the exciting opportunity of a three-day work placement next year.
We continue to encourage cycling to school, but we’ve had some concerns raised by local residents about unsafe cycling and students not wearing helmets. Please could we ask that if your child cycles to school, they always wear a helmet. Having taken a few tumbles myself, I can say from experience just how valuable a helmet can be!
A group of our Year 10 students have also been away in South Wales this week, this time visiting Jamie’s Farm. They’ve been working with animals and the farm team to build teamwork, resilience, and other life skills that will help them both in the workplace and beyond.
We also carried out our lockdown drill this week. These drills are a vital part of our safety procedures and, as always, gave us some helpful learning points to feed back to staff and students.
Finally, a reminder that on 3rd October we’ll be welcoming the search dog team for their first visit of the year. This one is always pre-announced, while two further visits will take place unannounced later in the year. These visits, alongside our other safeguarding measures, help to keep our school site as safe as possible for everyone.

FRIENDS OF CHARTERS SCHOOL (FOCS)
We are delighted to announce the launch of Friends of Charters School (FoCS) — a new group open to parents/carers, grandparents, alumni, staff and members of the local community who wish to support our school. The group will have three main aims:
- To support and enrich learning and wellbeing within Charters School.
- To raise funds for facilities, resources and opportunities for our students.
- To create opportunities for parents/carers and the wider community to meet.
An initial AGM will be held on Tuesday 21 October between 6pm and 7pm, where we will elect the first committee. At this stage, we are keen to gauge interest and invite volunteers for the roles of Chair, (the Chair will always be a member of staff), Vice-Chair, Secretary, Treasurer and up to eight Committee Members. These posts will run for one calendar year.
Please take a few minutes to complete this short form to let us know if you’d like to be involved, and to put yourself forward for one of the key roles. Voting will take place at the AGM.
Many hands make light work, and we look forward to building a stronger school community together.
YEAR 7 CURRICULUM EVENING
On Tuesday 23 September we welcomed parents and carers of the new Year 7 cohort into school for a curriculum evening. The evening was extremely well attended, and parents and carers listened to how they can work with the school to foster a strong sense of belonging for their child at Charters as well as informative presentations from the English, maths, science and MFL leads. Miss Torlop, Assistant Headteacher, also spoke passionately about the importance of reading, how a positive attitude for learning influences outcomes and exciting news about a touch-typing programme that is going to be introduced for all year 7s. The evening culminated with two sessions brilliantly led by our core subjects of English, maths, and science. We are delighted to report that all parents and carers were excellent learners and looked as if they had a great time immersing themselves in the typical learning experiences of a Year 7 student at Charters School. We do understand that there was a lot of information to digest on the evening and that some parents / carers were not able to make it, a pdf of the main presentation can be found here.
SIXTH FORM PROSPECTUS
Although it is only September, Year 11 students who are planning to continue their studies at sixth form or college will need to apply this term.
Make sure that Charters Sixth Form is on your list!
Graded as Outstanding during the last Ofsted inspection, it’s totally different from school.
Yes, the work will be a little harder, and there’s a lot more independence, but you’ll be supported all the way by our incredible Sixth Form team.
There’s a subtle shift which occurs when you start Sixth Form, and our staff will treat you as young adults rather than children

CHAIR & MEMBERS NEEDED FOR SUNNINGDALE VILLAGE HALL CHARITY
Sunningdale Village Hall has played a large part of Sunningdale's community for over 100 years and is home to our much needed and beloved preschool and after school club, as well as many other clubs, parties and activities many of us attend and host. The Village Hall is a charity, and its continued existence very much depends on a dedicated group of volunteers – the Trustees – who are willing to give their time, their enthusiasm, and their life skills to ensure the Village Hall continues to thrive well into the future. We are currently looking for a new chair and other keen members, and would love to hear from anyone who wants to ensure the heart of our community continues to run as smoothly as it has. We have a great operational team in place, so this is a purely strategic, governance and oversight positions. Please reach out to Jo Hermon (year 8 mum) if you are interested to have a chat. You can email the Trustee Board at: admin@svhcommunity.co.uk

HOPE FOOD SHARE
The Hope Church food share takes place each Tuesday from 12pm-1pm.
The items include mainly fresh food and bakery items donated from local supermarkets. The food is at the end of its shelf life (but still perfectly fine to eat!) and would otherwise just go to waste. Bring a bag to fill up, stop for a chat and a cup of tea (and cake!!) and warm up in the church. ALL welcome, no voucher/referral required.
Hope Church, Sunningdale, The Hope Centre, High Street Sunningdale, (next to Nag’s Head).
