NEWSLETTER - 16th MAY 2025
We are well and truly in DofE season with Bronze, Silver and Gold expeditions taking place. Yesterday 45 students started their Gold practice weekend. To have such a large number of students take part in the Gold scheme is testimony to the hard work and the students, staff and parents in supporting the scheme. The DofE scheme helps build resilience, determination, new skills and also helps individuals give back to the community in many different ways.
The main body of exams started this week, which is strange to highlight, but many students have commented how pleased they are that they have started. It has been a long time coming, but all seems to have started well, and students are focused and determined.
It was great to see the Japan Club learning how to make sushi this week and having a lovely meal at the end of the session. Thank you to Cucina for supporting the session and providing the resources.
Phone Pouches
Thank you to all who have completed the questionnaire – this is a final reminder to any people who have not over 1077 parent/carers out of 1200 have completed the questionnaire. The link is here for any people who have not completed it so far.
We are in the final stages of organising the allocation of pouches during Tutor time on the first day after half term ( 2nd June). From that point onwards, smart devices must be in pouches on the school site or they will be confiscated.
We know that this decision will have a positive impact on learning in school and well-being for students, so thank you to all who are working with us to make this change to support your children.
Further information and a presentation on our new phone-free school can be found here.

NEWS IN BRIEF
Arsenal Football Club Visit
A selection of our Year 9 and 10 Boy's Football teams attended the Arsenal Football Club's first team training ground last week. This was the third time this academic year that our students have been invited to attend the SOBHA Realty Training centre which is a testament to their brilliant attitude they have consistently shown. The boys are put through their paces as the Arsenal U18 team coach them through a series of drills and games as part of their UEFA C licence coaching. Mr Marris and Mr Douglas attended the trip and were so impressed with the sessions put on by the players alongside the attitude of the Charters students. A fantastic experience for all.
Athletic News
Annabelle and Ben competed this weekend in the Berkshire County Athletics Competition. Under sunny skies, they got some great results and although the days were long, they enjoyed themselves. Annabelle took third place in the long jump and secured a spot in the 100m final, while Ben took home an impressive gold medal in discus with a personal best, silver in shot put—also a personal best—and bronze in the javelin. Well done to them both.

A round-up of the sporting fixtures this week...
Well done to everyone!
FOOTBALL
- A big well done to the U15 Boys football team who played in the EBSFA League Final on Wednesday against Ranelagh! The final result was 2-1, with Ranelagh taking home the trophy in what was a tight match! However our boys made the school proud and have done excellently to reach the final!
TENNIS
- A fantastic result from the Year 7 & 8 girls who played against St George’s on Monday in the LTA Youth League! The girls played brilliantly – winning all their matches!
CRICKET
- On Tuesday, the U13 and U15 girls played against Holme Grange in the Reading Cricket League. The U15’s lost (272-223) whilst the U13’s won (249-244).
- On Tuesday, the U13 boys won their match against LVS (128-99) in the County Cup and are now though to the semi-final!

ATHLETICS
- On Wednesday, the Junior and Intermediate Girls (Year 7-10) travelled to Bracknell Athletics Track in the morning to compete in the 1st round of the Track & Field Cup. All girls performed amazingly and gave all their effort – even those that were inexperienced in some events. Well done girls!
- In the afternoon, 7 of our students competed in District Trials which is used for selection for the Berkshire Championships. All students did very well – especially considering some were at the T&F Cup in the morning and the hot weather!

STUDENT VOICE SURVEY – CORRIDOR DISPLAYS AT CHARTERS SCHOOL
We want to make sure the information and displays around our school reflect what our students want to see.
Over the past two weeks many of them have completed a survey to tell us just that!
We’ll be looking at the responses to ensure the displays and information we feature next September is bright, engaging and inspiring and to whet your appetite we’ll give you a sneak/peak before we break up for the summer.
The Book Club will be held in the Library. If you have any questions, please contact Miss Joel on r.joel@chartersschool.org.uk
BE PREPARED
EVERY DAY STUDENTS WILL NEED TO BRING...
HOPE CHURCH FOOD SHARE
The Hope Church food share takes place each Tuesday from 12pm-1pm.
The items include mainly fresh food and bakery items donated from local supermarkets. The food is at the end of its shelf life (but still perfectly fine to eat!) and would otherwise just go to waste. Bring a bag to fill up, stop for a chat and a cup of tea (and cake!!) and warm up in the church. ALL welcome, no voucher/referral required.
Hope Church, Sunningdale, The Hope Centre, High Street Sunningdale, (next to Nag’s Head).
