NEWSLETTER - 12 MAY

HIGHLIGHTS

This week has seen the Year 13 students ‘leave school’ before their examinations start on the 22 May.  It has been a busy week for them with their May Ball on Friday 5 May at The Berystede Hotel where they enjoyed a sit-down formal meal and danced the night away until leaving to dance somewhere else!   As a year group, they did not have a Year 11 Prom due to the COVID restrictions at the time so it was wonderful to see them enjoying themselves so much. Then today they have had their final leavers assembly for speeches, we wish them all the very best for their examinations coming up and look forward to celebrating with them on 17 August.

Year 11 received their Yearbooks this week and were busy getting friends and staff to sign and write messages.  There was a wonderful buzz in the quad area as they were milling around chatting while this was going on.  Their GCSEs start next week, so they are bound to be very nervous but we know they are well-prepared and ready.  We wish them all the best for their examinations and look forward to their Leavers' Assembly in two weeks time.

EXAMINATIONS

We are now entering the important summer exam series in school where Year 11  and  Year 13 will be taking their ‘A’ level BTEC and GCSE examinations.  Can you please remind your sons/daughters to respect the signage around the venues being used.

We want all our students to do their very best without any unnecessary noise distractions and ask all staff, students and visitors to find ways they can help.

Thank you

HEAD STUDENT TEAM

I had the privilege of saying thank you to the outgoing Head Student Team of Alanna, Lauren and Joseph this week.  They have led the Senior Student Committees with great humility and helped to make a real difference in the school, I would like to publicly thank them for the great job they have done and wish them all the very best in the future.  Their last job was to carry out a handover to the new team Erin, Josh and Saffy who I am sure will be equally impressive as they take up the role from today.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR SUMMER FESTIVAL

We don’t have a PTA at Charters as we’re conscious that we all lead busy lives, and  just ask for help as and when it is needed. With the Summer Festival fast approaching we are looking for volunteers to help make the day a success.

We already have a great group of parents who have volunteered for the face painting stall and we’re looking for people to man the following:

  • Pimm’s & Prosecco Tent
  • Bottle Tombola
  • Second Hand Uniform
  • Raffle
  • Gift Tree
  • Set up/Take down

There is no expectation for any individual to do any more than one hour and our mantra is very much, ‘many hands make light work!’ Maybe you have a group of friends who would like to do the same slot so that you can have a catch up at the same time, or don’t know many other parents and would like the opportunity to meet some. If you’d like to get involved, meet other parents and support the school, we’d love to hear from you.

We have already received a whole host of goodies for the event from local businesses including a £50 voucher for the Thatched Tavern in Cheapside, a two ball for Sunningdale Golf Course and a two week family pass for The Royal Berkshire Club. We will be using the donations for our gift tree, raffle and silent auction, so if know a local business that would like to raise its profile to a wider audience and could donate an item or voucher that we could use, please do get in touch. You can view the list of donations already received here and can contact the Marketing Team should you wish to donate or volunteer.

Thank you so much for your support

UNIFORM DONATIONS

Our Senior Sixth Form Students were on hand to collect donations of uniform this morning and we wanted to say a huge thank you to all those who contributed.
We will have a second-hand uniform stall at our Summer Festival on 15 July on a PAY WHAT YOU FEEL basis.
Once the Year 11 students have finished their examinations we will once again ask for donations of clean uniform which is in good condition and will publicise the date once it has been confirmed. In the meantime PLEASE DO NOT BRING ANY UNIFORM TO RECEPTION as we will not be able to accept items.
Thank you

FOOD BANK - EVERY TUESDAY

Food
12:00-1:00PM
SHARE Hope Church, Sunningdale
High Street, Sunningdale, SL5 7LY (next to Nag’s Head Pub)

Hate food waste? Come along to Hope Church Sunningdale FOOD BANK, open to ANYONE. We have mainly fresh food and bakery items donated from local supermarkets. The food is at the end of its shelf life (but still perfectly fine to eat!) It would otherwise just go to waste. Bring a bag to fill up, stop for a chat and a cup of tea (and cake!!) and warm up in the church. ALL welcome, no voucher/referral required.

We operate a  one (standard size) shopping bag per family policy and use ticketing system to stagger entrance to the food bank. We ask that you enter through the side door. Tea/coffee/biscuits are available from 11:15 and during the food bank. Entrance tickets will be distributed just before the food bank opens at 12:00. We may need to limit some items so there is enough to share with everyone.
