News round up (4)

This week, we completed the interview process for our new Senior Student Team. Students took part in both a panel interview and delivered presentations to their peers and senior staff. It is a thorough and, at times, challenging process, but one that provides them with valuable experience for the future as they begin to think about university and employment.

I am always incredibly impressed by the breadth of projects and volunteering our students are involved in, both within school and beyond. From supporting local charities to taking part in national competitions—and everything in between—they continue to demonstrate not only talent, but also a genuine commitment to making a positive difference. They have so much to offer, and their futures are very bright indeed.

This spirit of contribution is reflected in our Sixth Form through the Next Gen Leaders programme. We currently have over 170 Year 12 students supporting younger pupils in a wide range of ways: in classrooms, through clubs such as chess and board games, and within areas like Drama and PE. Their willingness to give back to the school community is something we are very proud of. Some students also spend time visiting a local care home, helping to build meaningful intergenerational connections while supporting a range of activities.

Although the second half of the spring term has been a short one, it has been full of opportunity. Our students have continued to develop their skills through a wide variety of experiences, including talks from visiting speakers, the annual careers fair, the Spring Concert, auditions for the Key Stage 3 play, sporting fixtures, and school trips (outlined below). Alongside this, our Sixth Form students have remained actively engaged in debate clubs and societies.

In the build-up to Easter, the House team has run a door decoration competition.  The students have really thrown themselves into the competition, creating colourful designs.  The winners were announced at the end of term assemblies, such a lovely, fun way to end the term. A huge thank you goes to every member of our school community for throwing yourselves so wholeheartedly into this competition.  You can view all the entries HERE and read the whole story in our news section below.

There have been a number of school trips:

A few reminders:

Easter break will be an ideal time to make sure that your child has all the correct equipment that need, including a whiteboard pen.

After the Easter break we will move into our summer uniform.

Students can choose to still wear either a shirt & tie or blouse or may wear the Charters branded polo shirt instead.  Students will only be able to wear the Charters branded polo shirt available from the school uniform shop which can be found here.

All shirts (including polo shirts) and blouses must be worn tucked in.

Blazer must still be worn to school.  If the weather gets exceptionally hot, students will be advised whether blazers may be left at home.   However, if the weather is cold, students may wear the Charters navy v neck jumper under their blazer.

Year 11 and Year 13 students start their Public examinations, so areas of the site will be sectioned off in order to provide quiet areas for these exams to take place.

New Newsflash tileTeam Berkshire Tennis at the County Cup

Sisters Lana (Year 10) and Kiara (Year 9) were part of the Berkshire Tennis team that competed in the Under 18 County Cup last weekend. They shared their competition experience with us:

We felt so proud to represent Berkshire County at 18U County cup at the Swansea Tennis Centre over three days event. Our team played some really tough matches facing strong opposition from Warwickshire, South Wales and Suffolk. It was a great team effort either playing matches or supporting your team mates. We played singles matches where you have to put your all strength and keep focused as well as doubles which were tough but also fun. Everyone showed great determination and teamwork and we secured the place in Division 3. We will continue hard work to prepare for the next year County Cup.

Well done to them both for being selected for this event to represent Berkshire.  We look forward to seeing their future tennis achievements.
