NEWSLETTER - 24th OCTOBER 2025

News round up (4)

The end of the first half-term of the academic year is here, and as always it has been a very busy one! Thank you for all your support — we hope you have a lovely break.

As you know, strong attendance is an essential part of success in school. At this point in the year, 84% of our students have attendance above 90%, with 67% between 95% and 100%. These are positive figures; however, it does mean that around 16.5% of students have an attendance rate of less than 90%, which means they are considered persistently absent from school.

It is very important that children are in school as much as possible. If your child’s attendance is a concern, we will be writing to you after half-term to offer support and work together to help improve it.

This half-term has been full of activity both in and beyond the classroom. From students taking part in national Maths competitions to the ever-popular juggling club, there has been a fantastic variety of opportunities. We want every student to find something they can enjoy and feel part of — there are over 90 clubs to choose from! A full list of clubs can be found here.

In addition to extracurricular clubs, students have taken part in a wide range of trips across many subjects and themes, including leadership. With more than 300 students attending these trips, we are very proud of the enrichment opportunities available.

A huge well done to all our Stars this week...

This week our Year 7s celebrated their Unity Respect Excellence Awards which replace their star of the week...

UNITY RESPECT EXCELLENCE
EMILY - Is a great ambassador for her tutor group. She is kind and helpful, and is a pleasure to have in the form. Emily has also volunteered to be a form rep, showing how much she has embraced being part of the Charters community. TOM - Is a student who consistently demonstrates respect in everything he does. He treats his teachers, classmates, and all members of the school community with kindness, courtesy, and consideration. His polite manners and positive attitude make him a role model for others.  He shows great maturity by listening to others’ opinions and valuing different perspectives, even when they differ from his own. Tom leads by example, following school rules, taking responsibility for his actions, and encouraging others to do the same. His calm, respectful nature helps create a positive and inclusive environment wherever he goes. OLAF - Is a confident young man, whose confidence has flourished since starting at Charters. He actively participates in his lessons, sharing his thoughts and ideas. Well Done!
ZAK - He always shows great respect and compassion for others during form time discussions and is our student council representative REUBEN - Reuben could easily be nominated for any one of URE. He is brilliant, he is eager to contribute but he is always understanding and undeterred when he isn't chosen to answer or make a contribution. He is so respectful to everyone and is endlessly polite to everyone, I thought he fitted best in this category (this time around) GABRIELLA - Is everywhere, all at once. She attended more clubs then there was space for, she makes excellent contributions in tutor time and PDL - she is confident, she is polite to a fault, she is organised and I think she should be recognised for being truly and excellent addition to the school.

The other year groups...

8 Noah Displaying excellence with the highest amount of achievement points so far this week
9 Theo  Has been a wonderful member of 9D. Theo has been a positive member to his peers. Theo always makes positive contributions to his lessons.
10 Olivia Well done for scoring the highest amount of achievement points this week in the tutor group!
11 Luca Recognised for his focus and effort in his lessons leading up to his PPE's
12 Ginny An increase in confidence noted by teachers and contribution towards the school community by volunteering to help with the 6th form open evening.
13 All Amazing support for the Sixth Form Open Evening where the Year 13s showcased the qualities which makes our Sixth Form extremely special.

FRIENDS OF CHARTERS  SCHOOL (FOCs)

Heading (15)

Thank you to everyone who attended the inaugural meeting of the newly formed Friends of Charters School this week.  It was wonderful to see such enthusiasm and a real sense of community amongst the group and lots of ideas started to take shape.

We would like to share the following upcoming fundraising events with the rest of our school community, so you can save the dates and more details will follow after half-term.

Friends of Charters is open to anyone within our local community: parents, grandparents, carers, alumni, staff and local supporters and our next meeting will be on Tuesday, 11 November from 6-7pm in the Durning Room.  We would love to see you there.

SEEKING WORK EXPERIENCE OPPORTUNITIES FOR ASPIRING MEDICAL STUDENTS

G375GXWXwAEktg7

Some of our Sixth Form students are beginning their journey toward a future in medicine and healthcare — and we’re looking for work experience placements to help them take their next step.

If you or your organisation can offer a short placement, shadowing opportunity, or insight day in any medical or healthcare-related setting (GP practice, hospital, clinic, pharmacy, care home, laboratory, etc.), we would love to hear from you.

These experiences are invaluable in helping our students understand the realities of working in the medical field, strengthen their university applications, and inspire their future career paths.

Please get in touch with our Head of Science, Miss Lawson, if you can help, and thank you for supporting the next generation of healthcare professionals!

COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS EVENING

Wednesday 12th November, 5.00–6.30pm

X template (8)

We’re excited to invite our community to our Community Connections Evening on Wednesday 12th November, 5:00–6:30pm held in the Main Hall at Charters School.

This special event celebrates how our school supports the local community and highlights opportunities for local organisations, charities, and businesses to get involved.

We’ll be sharing how subjects across the school would love your support — from materials for DT and Textiles to sponsorship in Drama and Music — and exploring how our students can give back through volunteering, Duke of Edinburgh, and more.

If you’re part of a local organisation, we’d love to meet you and build new partnerships!

The Hope Church food share takes place each Tuesday from 12pm-1pm.

The items include mainly fresh food and bakery items donated from local supermarkets. The food is at the end of its shelf life (but still perfectly fine to eat!) and would otherwise just go to waste. Bring a bag to fill up, stop for a chat and a cup of tea (and cake!!) and warm up in the church. ALL welcome, no voucher/referral required.

Hope Church, Sunningdale, The Hope Centre, High Street Sunningdale, (next to Nag’s Head).
