NEWSLETTER - 10th OCTOBER 2025
Today is Hello Yellow Day, a wonderful opportunity to highlight the importance of looking after our mental health and well-being. This week’s assemblies have focused on the support available both in school and through external services. Our website also has helpful information on how young people can support one another. A big thank you to the Sixth Form Leadership Team for organising this event and contributing to the assemblies.
Throughout the week, we have hosted our Open Mornings, welcoming parents and children who are considering joining us in Year 7 in September 2026. Our Year 10 School Ambassadors have done a fantastic job guiding families around the school. Not only did this give visitors a genuine insight into school life, but it also helped our ambassadors develop valuable communication skills and confidence. Over four days, we welcomed more than 600 families, many of whom returned on Thursday evening for a presentation and to explore areas they may have missed.
On Thursday after school, I took a walk through the Music department and was instantly drawn in by the beautiful sound of the choir rehearsing for their upcoming performance. Just next door, nine students were fully engrossed in two games of Warhammer with Mr Hoare. One student proudly shared their own vehicle design for the game, showcasing real creativity and passion. It was a joy to see such enthusiasm across different activities. Thank you to Mr Hoare and Mrs Wium for running these fantastic clubs.
Finally, a huge congratulations to our Year 7 and 8 cross-country team, who came first in the district competition last weekend! They now move on to the regional competition, which could take them anywhere in the South East. Keep on running hard — we’re incredibly proud of you!

FRIENDS OF CHARTERS SCHOOL (FOCs)
Thank you to everyone who has expressed an interest in supporting the newly formed Friends of Charters School.
As the saying goes, “many hands make light work,” and we’re excited to see such enthusiasm from our community. Together, we’ll be creating some fantastic opportunities for parents, carers, and the wider community to come together to socialise, build connections, and raise valuable funds for our school.
Our Annual General Meeting (AGM) will take place in The Durning Room from 6:00–7:00pm on Tuesday, 21st October. We look forward to welcoming everyone who would like to get involved and help shape the future of Friends of Charters School.
ATTENDANCE IN SCHOOL

Please follow the link to NHS guidance around when not to send you child to school. The guidance is clear that a cough, cold or runny nose, as long as there is no raised temperature then it is okay for your child to come to school. Link to guidance is here
SHOW RACISM THE RED CARD

Friday 17th October is a non-uniform day.
All staff and students are encouraged to wear RED clothes to show support for the education that this charity can provide. This day is key to us to help demonstrate one element of our school motto, Unity.
What is the charity?
Show Racism The Red Card is an anti-racism educational charity. We aim to combat racism through enabling role models, who are predominately but not exclusively footballers, to present an anti-racist message to young people and others. Show Racism The Red Card acknowledges that racism changes, as do the experiences of Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities in the UK.
We ask for all staff and students in non-uniform to make a minimum of £1 donation. This can be cash, there will be a collection point in the main office and at briefing (tutors – you will be visited during registration) or you can use the below link.

THE DRUGS DETECTION DOGS VISIT

As many parents and carers will be aware, we periodically invite a company into school which specialises in drugs detection. This is primarily done as a preventative safeguarding measure and part of our proactive and robust approach against use of illegal substances.
This week, we had an unannounced visit from the detection team and we are delighted to report that there were zero indications over the day. We intend to maintain a high profile and zero-tolerance approach in the area and continue to focus on educating students on the dangers of illegal substances. This includes the uncertainty of what may be in vapes. We do appreciate the support that we have received from the school community regarding our actions here and thank you for delivering a consistent message at home.
CHILD EMPLOYMENT

Getting a part-time job is often an important part of a young person’s life, teaching them vital life skills, and providing their first step on the road to financial security and independence.
There are regulations in place to make sure children seeking work are safe and protected. The regulations ensure that the child is not working outside the legal hours, they are not doing any types of work that are prohibited, and that the school is fully aware of what they are doing. This way, we can all work together to ensure that our children are safe, that they are working legally, and that their school work does not suffer. This link explains the laws surrounding Child Employment: https://www.nncee.org.uk/page/45/employment
The most important thing to remember, is that it is a legal requirement that any child from the age of 13 up to statutory school leaving age needs a work permit if they would like to get a part time job, regardless of where they are working. It is down to the employer to initiate the permit process, but unfortunately some employers may need a reminder. It is therefore important that parents are aware, so they can prompt the workplace to apply, get the ball rolling, or contact me for advice, if necessary.
I am happy to chat to parents or pupils over any aspects of this process.
I am the Child Employment Officer and my email address for any information, advice, and the issue of work permits is: susan.harris@achievingforchildren.org.uk

HOPE FOOD SHARE
The Hope Church food share takes place each Tuesday from 12pm-1pm.
The items include mainly fresh food and bakery items donated from local supermarkets. The food is at the end of its shelf life (but still perfectly fine to eat!) and would otherwise just go to waste. Bring a bag to fill up, stop for a chat and a cup of tea (and cake!!) and warm up in the church. ALL welcome, no voucher/referral required.
Hope Church, Sunningdale, The Hope Centre, High Street Sunningdale, (next to Nag’s Head).
