News round up (4)

We had the absolute pleasure of welcoming our new Year 6 students as they begin their journey into secondary school. It was lovely to see them arrive in their smart primary uniforms, brimming with excitement and enthusiasm as they got stuck into a full day of activities. Later in the evening, we welcomed their parents into school for a chance to meet their child’s tutor, learn about the support and routines in place, and explore the wide range of extracurricular opportunities available to our students. It was a really positive and heartwarming evening all round.

At the same time, the other half of Year 7 has been away enjoying their adventure training week in glorious weather. From fishing to crate stacking, they’ve thrown themselves into all kinds of outdoor activities. It’s been a joy to see them growing in confidence, building teamwork, and developing resilience over the week.

Another real highlight came from our incredible Free and Equal Ambassadors, who delivered a powerful presentation to the senior leadership team. This amazing group of 18 students has been working hard on a project that celebrates what brings us together and promotes respect and inclusion across our school community. What makes it even more special is that it’s completely student-led. Their passion, thoughtfulness, and dedication really shone through, and it’s clear their work will have a lasting impact.

On Thursday, we welcomed back Peter Radcliffe for his annual talk on sexism and misogyny. With a sad increase in related incidents this year, Peter’s message felt especially relevant. His session helped students understand where these harmful attitudes can come from—and, more importantly, gave them the tools and confidence to challenge and change them. It was a powerful and thought-provoking reminder of the role we all play in creating a respectful and inclusive environment.

Also on Thursday, our Year 10 students completed their spoken language assessments as part of their GCSEs. These presentations give students a chance to explore topics they’re passionate about while building valuable communication and analytical skills. This year’s topics were incredibly diverse and thought-provoking—from the impact of football on British culture and personal experiences of ADHD, to the meaning of personal beliefs, the wonder of aquariums, whether the Harry Potter films do the books justice, and the mystery of life beyond Earth. The range of ideas shared was fantastic, and a real reflection of the curiosity and individuality of our students.

Sonny, Rhys and Tom in Year 9 have been selected to play in the England National Futsal Final this weekend.  The team will be training today at Repton School and tomorrow at Derby University ahead of the big game.  We wish them all the best and look forward to finding out more about their successes in this exciting, fast-paced form of traditional football that originates from South America.  Futsal is played on hard pitches with small-sided teams and emphasis is on players' technical skill in restricted spaces.
