Year 12 Gut Health Talk

The Science Department were delighted to host Beth Penny, a Nutritionist and Lifestyle Coach from Stealthy Healthy, on Thursday. Beth spoke to our Year 12 students about the crucial connection between gut health and overall wellbeing.
Many students were surprised to learn about the complex community of microbes living within our digestive systems. Beth explained how these “good bugs” produce postbiotics, substances that play a vital role in supporting our immune system, digestion, and even mental health. It was eye-opening to discover that maintaining a healthy gut doesn’t just affect physical health but can also influence mood and cognitive function.
This opportunity came about thanks to some excellent unity within our community; with five students currently undertaking a self-directed GOLD CREST Award, looking at the role of probiotics and on gut health, our lead technician kindly put us in touch with Beth, enabling this enriching experience for the wider student body.
This talk has sparked important conversations about lifestyle choices and how nurturing our gut health can contribute to a happier, healthier life. We thank Beth for inspiring our students to take a proactive approach to their wellbeing through informed nutritional decisions, as well as Mrs Speller for making this possible.
