NEWSLETTER - 23rd MAY 2025
We have come to the end of term 5, like all terms it has been a busy one for staff and students alike. The final week has seen our Music department host yet another wonderful Chamber Concert, with 20 students taking part, for some it was the first time performing in public. As always, it was a pleasure to listen to the students and watch them play. The range of instruments is wonderful to see, drums and electric guitars and trombones and violins. Music has a wonderful ability to take you to places in your mind and jog memories. Emilia (Yr 7) played 633 Squadron by Ron Goodwin that took me back to memories of watching the film with my dad when I was much younger - it was also one of the films that he kept going back to as he grew older, so hearing Emilia play the theme tune jogged some lovely memories, thank you Emilia.
The Year 10 Geography students have had their physical geography field trip this week, and depending on the day they went, they either had warm, lovely temperatures or torrential rain. As all geographers know it is not a proper field trip unless it rains, so those students who went on Wednesday have earned their field trip spurs as it rained all day. Once again, the students were excellent and worked very hard to collate the data they needed for their GCSE field work.
Last weekend Year 8 students went to Belgium on a history trip, visiting the World War One battlefields and cemeteries. The students had a fantastic time and were a credit to the school. At a time when we have war in Europe and increasing tensions again between East and West, it is a timely reminder of the human cost of war.
Smart Devices
When we return after half term, we will be starting our new policy regarding smart devices in school. As such, all smart devices will have to be in a pouch while on the school premises during the school day. We firmly believe that this change will make a significant difference to individuals' learning and their ability to concentrate in class and have a more positive school day, away from the worries of messages and potential misuse of phones by others. The pouches will be issued during registration on the 2nd June.
Year 7 students will finish their period 5 lesson five minutes early to give them a head start in opening their pouches before the end of the school day. We will demonstrate how to open the pouches during registration.
School Uniform
After half term, as the weather gets warmer, students will not have to wear their blazers. If the weather changes and becomes colder, then students can only wear a school jumper or blazer to help keep themselves warm. Any student wearing a non-school uniform jumper will have this confiscated, and it can be collected at the end of the day. Students who persistently break this rule or refuse to hand the article over will have consequences.

COMMUNITY SUPPORT
We are reaching out to ask for the support of parents for a community initiative that could benefit your child and many local groups. Charters School is seeking funding from the Ascot & Sunninghill Parish Council's Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) fund to purchase retractable seating for our main hall.
This upgrade will transform the hall into a flexible, accessible performance and event space that can better serve the wider community, including arts groups, youth organisations, care homes, local schools, and sports clubs. The retractable seating will allow the hall to switch easily between large seated events and open-floor activities, making it a true multipurpose hub.
Under the Parish Council’s CIL Policy, projects must:
- Support development in the area,
- Be in line with the Neighbourhood Plan objectives (including community cohesion and infrastructure),
- Demonstrate long-term benefit and community support.
This project clearly addresses these aims. Charters is a state school that already opens its facilities to the community, and this enhancement will increase the value and accessibility of that space for generations to come and hugely improve facilities for current students.
We kindly ask you to:
- Consider signing this letter of support and return to marketing@chartersschool.org.uk
- Encourage friends and family to do the same.
Your endorsement will help demonstrate community backing, which is a key criterion in the CIL decision-making process.
If you have any questions or would like more information, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with our Marketing Manager Mrs Herbert.
Thank you for supporting local infrastructure that benefits us all.

HOPE CHURCH FOOD SHARE
The Hope Church food share takes place each Tuesday from 12pm-1pm.
The items include mainly fresh food and bakery items donated from local supermarkets. The food is at the end of its shelf life (but still perfectly fine to eat!) and would otherwise just go to waste. Bring a bag to fill up, stop for a chat and a cup of tea (and cake!!) and warm up in the church. ALL welcome, no voucher/referral required.
Hope Church, Sunningdale, The Hope Centre, High Street Sunningdale, (next to Nag’s Head).
