NEWSLETTER - 28 MARCH

News round up (4)

This week we hosted an online Questions Time for the Sixth Form.  The main local parties, Conservative, Green, Labour and Liberal Democrats had representatives present.  It was wonderful to see and hear the Sixth Formers so engaged in the political debate and listen to their probing questions.  Thank you to Mr Metson for organising.

Mr Stephenson took a school trip to Cadogan Hall in London to experience a classical concert.  The students not only got to listen to a wonderful recital but saw a former Charters student performing in the orchestra playing the cello.  The students also got to have a chat with her at the end to find out about her experience as a professional musician.

We would like to thank all members of the community who have helped us support 51 families this holiday with food parcels to help them over the school holiday period.  It is wonderful when members of the community come together to support each other in this way.

The Sixth Form Social Action group have been preparing and delivering Easter baskets to three local care homes and has spent time talking to the residents.  Intergenerational conversations are so enlightening and give so much to all of those who are involved.

We wish you all a very Happy Easter and for members of the Muslim a happy Eid al-Fitr.

MUFTI DAY IN SUPPORT OF BRITISH RED CROSS

TWITTER post (9)

Today staff and students wore something white for mufti day to signify the importance of peace and how humanitarian aid can help support individuals in conflict zones.

The British Red Cross is working with the International Committee of the Red Cross to support civilians caught up in conflicts an the appeal supported today is to provide basic humanitarian support for individuals as well as support with the transfer of hostages and psychological support for individuals and their families on return.

As a school community, we ask that our students be compassionate and understand that we should support individuals who have been, and continue to be, impacted by conflict. In raising money for the British Red Cross Israel and Occupied Palestinian Territory Appeal we are showing our support for all.  The Red Cross is an impartial organisation supporting all families caught up in events that are not their doing but are impacting on them greatly.

Staff and Students have been donating via the Charters School Just Giving Page and collection buckets around school, and we have exceeded our target with an amazing total currently standing at £993.  We will let you know the final total after Easter once all donations have been collected.  If you haven't yet donated and would like to do so, you can via the link above.

Excellence, reasoning and confidence have been the focus for our students this week and assemblies have been themed around personal reflection and goal setting.  For our Year 11 and 13 students, who will soon be entering the public examination period, these are important aspects that will support their revision and focus during this time.

After the Easter break, our focus will be on excellence, resilience, motivation and confidence to continue to support all our students.

SCHOOL UNIFORM

When we return after the Easter break students can wear the summer uniform.  All students can wear school polo shirts under their blazers.  PE sweatshirts are not part of the main school uniform and can only be worn in PE.  If students need to wear an additional layer under their blazer they need to wear a school jumper.  Details of the uniform can be found here

EQUIPMENT

Towards the end of this term, we noticed that students were somewhat depleted in the equipment they needed in school to be successful.  Can you please take the Easter break to ensure that pencil cases are restocked?  Under the Things To Remember section you can see an example of the equipment students should have in school every day.

DINING HALL AND SIXTH FORM CAFE REFURBISHMENT

TWITTER post (8)

We are delighted to announce that during the Easter break, or catering partners Cucina, will be refurbishing the main Dining Hall area and Pronto, our Sixth Form café.   The main Dining Hall area will take on a restaurant 'Food Court’ style with all folding tables being replaced with table and bench style seating.  In addition, Generation Juice will be installed, offering a wide range of flavoured drinks that will help reduce our carbon footprint.   Please remember your child will need a reusable bottle to use Generation Juice,  as we will be reducing the availability of  bottled drinks over time.

The Sixth Form Café, Pronto, will be revamped offering our Sixth Form students a coffee shop experience with great coffee, seasonal drinks and eclectic food.

HOPE CHURCH FOOD BANK

Capture

The Hope Church food bank takes place each Tuesday from 12pm-1pm.

The items include mainly fresh food and bakery items donated from local supermarkets. The food is at the end of its shelf life (but still perfectly fine to eat!) and would otherwise just go to waste. Bring a bag to fill up, stop for a chat and a cup of tea (and cake!!) and warm up in the church. ALL welcome, no voucher/referral required.

Hope Church, Sunningdale, The Hope Centre, High Street Sunningdale, (next to Nag’s Head).
