News round up (4)

I have been reading through the applications from our Year 12 students wanting to be part of the Senior Student Team next year.  The applications are incredible!  Reading some of the letters is so inspiring in terms of what individuals have done in the past, what they are doing now and their aspirations for the future. Thank you to everyone who applied, I enjoyed reading your letters and I wish you all the best if you are selected for an interview.   I admire every single one of you for putting yourself forward.

This week we received the results of the intermediate National Maths Challenge.  This is a voluntary competition for students in Year 9 and Year 10, over 130 students took part with 4 students gaining the Gold Award, 22 Silver and 42 Bronze.  Well done for all of those who took and in particular to the students earning Gold, Silver and Bronze awards.

Members of the Year 11 Football squad have come back from a trip to Arsenal's training ground where they were put through their paces by members of the Arsenal football club and having to demonstrate their coaching skills for coaching qualifications.  They were lucky enough to meet members of the first team squad and see the fantastic facilities. All the students has a wonderful time, even the Spurs fans!

Our Sporting Teams continue to go from strength to strength, the Year 10 Boys Football have progressed to the Semi-finals of the County Cup while the girls squads have received their new kit.  Thank you to Osbourne Heath for sponsoring them and you can read more about the team and their sponsor in our News story below.

Year 11 students are now in full flow as they build towards their exams in the summer, rehearsals are going on for Drama and Music assessments.  I had a lovely conversation with a Year 11 student this week who said that they are looking forward to the exams as it is a chance to show everyone what they can do.  They also said that they were nervous about them but what gave me great heart was them saying that being unsure and nervous is natural, you just have to give it your best shot and work towards what you want.  Very wise words on young shoulders.

We have had several school visitors on site this week who have all commented on the wonderful environment that we have in school - both in the outside spaces, daffodils in full bloom, and the indoor environment.  I would like to thank all the students who help us maintain this high standard, with over 1800 people on site each day it is wonderful that the environment is so positive.

NEWSFLASH (1)
YEAR 7 NETBALL

The Year 7 Netball Team took part in 5 matches against local schools on Tuesday night at St George’s as part of the Under 12 Ascot Schools Competition. They did really well and it is great to see them growing in confidence and resilience as a team and rising up to the challenge of playing against very strong opposition. Special thanks goes to Ruby and Nina in Year 11 who did an amazing job of coaching the girls and umpiring the games. They are really wonderful aspirational role models for our young players.

The items include mainly fresh food and bakery items donated from local supermarkets. The food is at the end of its shelf life (but still perfectly fine to eat!) and would otherwise just go to waste. Bring a bag to fill up, stop for a chat and a cup of tea (and cake!!) and warm up in the church. ALL welcome, no voucher/referral required.
