NEWSLETTER -30 SEPTEMBER

HIGHLIGHTS

This week we hosted our Celebrations of Achievement and Sports Presentation Evening, which had been cancelled in the Summer due to the heat wave of 40 degrees.  Both evenings were a tremendous success and showcased the excellent work of our students, and also their commitment to extra-curricular events and our local community.

The Celebration of Achievement Evening highlighted the academic successes as well as the community work that our students have achieved this year. It is always humbling to hear the work that our students taking the PiXL EDGE award have carried out in the local community.  Their commitment to their development, and also their desire to help the local community, is fantastic.  A massive congratulations to all the students who gained an award this year.

Sports Award Evening showcased the quality in depth we have in school across a wide variety of sports, both those taught in school and those pursued by students outside of school, at a local through to national level.  The guest speaker, Milly Routledge, a former student at Charters, gave a video address as she is at university in America.  She answered questions put to her by Mr Wales, Head of PE, about her sporting career and also her mindset to training, competition and studying.  Thank you to Milly for an interesting presentation and well done to all who received awards, your commitment to your sport is clear to see.

YEAR 12 ENRICHMENT

We have had a full run through of the enrichment programme and are delighted to see the Year 12 students actively engaging with all the different activities on offer this term. Their enthusiasm to try something different will help them to develop those softer skills that help them to become well rounded members of society.

Activities this term include: Japanese, Sign Language, Debating, Soul Creativity, Mindfulness, Visiting Primary School and Care Homes, Football, Dodgeball, Badminton and using the fitness suite. Many have decided to study from the massive online learning courses or to undertake an extended project qualification (EPQ)

Next week they begin their Learning Leader activities supporting our younger students and encouraging them to aspire to Sixth Form and beyond.

EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

Across the school in all year groups, students have been engaging with the many opportunities available to them to enjoy an after school activity.

We have had just over a thousand students attend an ECA this month and two hundred students take part in an evening theatre trip. It is wonderful to see our students making the most of the variety of events on offer.

YEAR 11 CONCERT

Thursday saw the Year  11 music students put on a concert to showcase some of their own compositions as well as some covers.  The standard of playing was of the highest quality from drum solos to classical pieces it was wonderful to hear and see the amazing talent we have in school.  Keep an eye on the school calendar, as it is well worth coming along to one of our future concerts that will showcase the talent of the students.    Thank you to Mr Hoare and the Music department for helping the students and organising the concert.
