News round up (4)

This week, we were delighted to welcome Ayman into school to speak with students in Years 9, 10 and 12 about his journey to the UK as an asylum seeker from Syria. His story was both inspiring and humbling, and our students listened with great maturity and respect as he shared his experiences.

Ayman works with the charity Asylum Speakers, which helps young people hear first-hand stories from individuals with a wide range of life experiences and perspectives. If you would like to find out more about their work, please visit. As part of our wider programme of guest speakers, these opportunities encourage students to reflect on important issues, broaden their understanding of the world around them, and develop their own informed thoughts and opinions.

We would also like to celebrate the fantastic achievements of several members of staff who took part in marathon events last weekend. Mr Bennie and Mrs Grosvenor both completed the London Marathon, performing brilliantly in what was a truly memorable event, as the men’s race saw the two-hour barrier broken for the very first time by Sebastian Sawe. On the same day, Mr Martin completed the Shakespeare Marathon in an impressive time of under three hours.

We are incredibly proud of them all for taking on such a huge challenge and showing such determination and commitment.

Congratulations to the Year 7 Boys football team, who fought valiantly to get to the East Berkshire Cup final on Wednesday. They played very well as a team, but unfortunately lost 2-0 on the day.

Help Make the Summer Fayre a Success

The Friends of Charters School are busy preparing for our upcoming Literary Festival & Summer Fayre, taking place on Saturday 4th July from 12:00pm to 4:00pm.

One of the highlights of the event will be a bottle tombola and yes, we are looking for donations of bottles please!

Thank you to all the Year 7 parents/carers who have already kindly donated bottles when they attended the Parents Evening yesterday but in order to make the bottle tombola a roaring success, we need more!

These can include items such as wine, perfume, toiletries, or even sauces - anything bottled that others might enjoy!

Please bring any bottle donations to Main Reception and hand them directly to Reception staff. For safety reasons, bottles should not be sent into school with students.

We are also looking for vouchers for our Summer Draw.

These can be for meals in restaurants, beauty treatments, rounds of golf or days out - something you feel would be great to win!

We are currently raising funds to upgrade the sound and lighting equipment in our Main Hall and we really appreciate all your help in supporting our fundraising efforts. Every donation, big or small, makes a real difference.

Thank you in advance for your generosity - it really does make the world of difference to us

If you can help in any of these ways, or know someone who might, please email us at [email protected] with your details.

The Charters Way

As we continue with the delivery of our behaviour curriculum in tutor time, we have explicitly taught our next area that supports learning in the classroom.

Untitled design (3)

This element is supported by our Character Pillar of Motivation.

Content included:

  • Importance of time management
  • What it means to be calm and arrive calmly
  • The impact on your own and others learning of not being calm and on time
  • Our expectations of what arriving to lessons calmly and on time looks like at Charters

Next weeks focus then moves to our next element 'being ready to learn', our rationale for highlighting this element before we explicitly teach it in school is the role that parents/carers play in this at home.  If we could please ask that you support your child by ensuring they are arriving to school each day ready to learn, making sure they have the correct uniform and equipment enables us in school to minimise lost learning time dealing with the basics.  If you would like a reminder, uniform on our website can be found here.  We are currently in summer uniform so students can wear a Charters branded polo shirt in place of a shirt and tie or blouse if they wish.  Our full equipment list is below.

  • Valuing time and making the most of the time you have available in school
  • Preparing yourself to be successful

As with our previous focus please do discuss this with your child at home and reinforce the messages we are sharing at school.  If you have any questions at all please do contact your child's form tutor or Head of Year.

HOPE FOOD SHARE

X template (15)

The Hope Church food share takes place each Tuesday from 12pm-1pm.

The items include mainly fresh food and bakery items donated from local supermarkets. The food is at the end of its shelf life (but still perfectly fine to eat!) and would otherwise just go to waste. Bring a bag to fill up, stop for a chat and a cup of tea (and cake!!) and warm up in the church. ALL welcome, no voucher/referral required.

Hope Church, Sunningdale, The Hope Centre, High Street Sunningdale, (next to Nag’s Head).
