30th Apr 2026

This week, we were delighted to celebrate the incredible talent, dedication and academic curiosity shown by our Year 10 students during their HPQ presentations. As part of our Potential High Achievers Programme, students have spent the past few months researching, planning and developing independent projects on a wide range of fascinating topics - and the results have been truly exceptional.

HPQ stands for Higher Project Qualification, which is designed to stretch and challenge students, particularly those aspiring to university and higher education. Through the programme, students develop valuable academic skills including research, essay writing, referencing, presentation skills and the use of primary and secondary sources - a significant achievement for learners at this stage of their education.

To complete the qualification, students are required to:

  • Create a production log documenting their progress throughout the project
  • Research materials and a bibliography linked to their topic
  • Write a 2000-word essay answering their chosen hypothesis
  • Present a final reflection of their findings and outcomes

Mrs Palmer-Garrett and Miss Horn have been enthralled by both the breadth of subjects explored and the impressive depth of research undertaken by the students. Presentation topics showcased not only creativity and passion, but also maturity, resilience and a genuine enthusiasm for learning.

Miss Horn said, It has been a pleasure to guide the Year 10 students through their HPQ. They have balanced this project with other commitments, such as work experience, PPEs and DofE. Their commitment and dedication has allowed them to flourish and build on their skills."

Students should feel extremely proud of what they have achieved. Their hard work over the past few months has clearly paid off, and the quality of their projects reflects the ambition and determination fostered within our Potential High Achievers Programme.

We would like to congratulate all students involved for their commitment and outstanding effort, and thank the staff who have supported them throughout this exciting academic journey. We look forward to seeing where their talents and ambitions take them next.
