NEWSLETTER -17th APRIL 2026

A very warm welcome back to school as we begin the summer term.
Year 10 have worked incredibly hard this week, completing their PPE exams. They have gained valuable experience of sitting several exams in close succession in formal exam conditions—something that will really support them as they continue their journey towards GCSEs next year. Year 10 students are also out of school next week for 3 days of work experience. Thank you to Mrs Hicks, who has worked tirelessly to ensure that students can have these valuable opportunities in the workplace, which we hope will start to give the students ideas about possible careers they may or may not want to pursue.
Year 11 and Year 13 are now in their final few weeks before exams begin. This can naturally feel like a nervous time as they wait for that first exam, and we wish them every success as they prepare and perform to the very best of their ability.
In our start-of-term assemblies, we have been encouraging all students to focus on getting the basics right and developing the everyday habits that lead to success. One key habit is strong attendance. Thank you to everyone who took the time to complete the IMPACT ED attendance survey last term—it has provided us with valuable insights to build on. One clear message from students was that we could do more to celebrate good attendance, and this is something we are actively working to improve.
Our summer term clubs are now available, and this is always a term rich with extracurricular opportunities. We are especially excited that the first Duke of Edinburgh expedition takes place this weekend.
We look forward to a positive and successful term ahead.

THE CHARTERS WAY
I am sure that many of you will be aware of 'The Charters Way', our consistent lesson expectations in terms of behaviour for learning. Over the next few weeks as part of our behaviour curriculum, we will be ensuring that all students understand the importance of 'The Charters Way' by explicitly teaching in tutor time what each element means in our school. This week as part of our continued drive around kindness we are focussing on polite and appropriate language.
Content includes:
- What it means to be polite in our school
- Basics of manners, courtesy and being kind
- Why polite and appropriate language matters
- Focussing on building positive relationships, creating a sense of belonging and community, avoiding conflict and making communication clearer
- What appropriate language is in our school

CORDES HALL IN APRIL
MESSAGE FROM THE HALL ADMINISTRATOR:
Saturday 18th April – Cordes Hall Cinema
4.00 pm The Choral (12A) – A moving, heartfelt drama that balances humour with deep emotion, set during the First World War. Written by Alan Bennett and starring Ralph Fiennes and a host of British elite actors.
7.30 pm One Battle After Another (15) – This just the won the Oscar for Best Film although Leo DiCaprio lost out on Best Actor to a Brit actor! Widely considered a critically acclaimed masterpiece and one of Paul Thomas Anderson’s best films.
Please remember that comments about the films are my own – and you can google to get a balanced view.
Lots of choice in the bar for drinks both non and alcoholic. A reminder that ticket prices are £6 for adults and £4 for children under 14. Tickets are available from www.ticketsource.co.uk/cordes-hall or on the door. We have gone cashless so I’m afraid you now have to pay on the door and in the bar with a card. Always remember it’s a very friendly atmosphere at the Cinema so don’t be afraid to come on your own. Or bring a gang!
Hope you’re finding it helpful that I preview what’s on in May so you can put it in your diary!
Quince Players proudly present ‘Some Mothers do ‘ave ‘em’ with performances at 7.45 pm on 7-9th May and 14-16th May. Knowing the QP this is going to be a night of hilarious, heart-warming chaos. Suitable for all ages. Tickets are £15. For more info & tickets, contact [email protected]
Saturday 23 May – Cinema
4.00 pm Hamnet (12A) – outstanding film about the grief of William Shakespeare and his wife Agnes when their son Hamnet dies at a young age. Jessie Buckley won every award going for Best Actress. And Paul Mescal is just gorgeous (personal opinion!).
7.30 pm Song Sung Blue (12A) – I loved this but then again I’m a huge Neil Diamond fan. A musical drama based on a true story, Kate Hudson and Hugh Jackman play a couple who form a Neil Diamond tribute band. The music is just fabulous and the two leads make it compelling stuff.
Saturday 30 May we are very proud that Mark Kitto is bringing his one-man show called Chinese Boxing to Cordes Hall. This is part of our ambition to bring you unusual and different entertainment. More details will be put on the website very soon but for more info about Mark and the show, do visit his website www.chineseboxing.co.uk
Friday 13 November – it’s George (Michael) & Elton (John) performing the Hits (courtesy of 2 fabulous tribute guys). You can get tickets (and more information) for this already on www.ticketsource.com/cordes-hall. We’ll update you throughout the year.
Finally, don’t forget all our weekly regular other groups – listed below. Please contact them for info. That’s it for now – hope to see you in the Hall soon!
Very best wishes,
Vanessa

HOPE FOOD SHARE

The Hope Church food share takes place each Tuesday from 12pm-1pm.
The items include mainly fresh food and bakery items donated from local supermarkets. The food is at the end of its shelf life (but still perfectly fine to eat!) and would otherwise just go to waste. Bring a bag to fill up, stop for a chat and a cup of tea (and cake!!) and warm up in the church. ALL welcome, no voucher/referral required.
Hope Church, Sunningdale, The Hope Centre, High Street Sunningdale, (next to Nag’s Head).
