News round up (4)

This week saw the Year 11 students take part in Mock interviews in preparation for school Sixth Forms and Sixth Form College.  Each student has an interview with a local businessperson, trying to match where possible career aspirations to the interviewer.  We would like to thank all the local companies that took part and for the wonderful feedback that they gave students, as well as comments about the process and how it ran.  This is an important part of our careers programme as it is a culmination of a module looking at CV and cover letter writing.  It is a highly practical and very tangible experience for the students.

As we move toward Christmas, there are a large number of events coming up, Friends of Charters Wreath Making, Sports Awards Evening, Celebration of Success, Winter Concert & the Carol Service, to name but a few.  The staff choir has been rehearsing hard for the Carol concert.

ISLA SHINES ON NEWSROUND

Back in October, students in Year 7 were absolutely thrilled to welcome Newsround presenter Ricky Boleto to their lessons, as the BBC reporter visited Charters to film a special segment exploring how young people’s unique experiences and differences are understood and supported at school.  Ricky, along with fellow journalist Esther, joined Isla – one of our inspiring Year 7 students for the day and her story was aired on Newsround this week.  You can watch Isla's interview with Ricky by clicking the image below.

Huge congratulations to Year 8 student Savannah. After dedicating 9 years to gymnastics, she switched to Karate last July.  During a Shotokan Karate grading event this weekend she advanced from a white belt to a red belt, skipping two belts in the process! What an achievement!

OPEN LETTER TO PARENTS FROM THE SIXTH FORM

X template (1)

The Sixth Form students have asked that we publish this letter from them regarding the detached car park on Charters Road.

Dear parents

As new and inexperienced drivers, we wanted to respectfully ask that you do not use our car park to pick up your children at the end of school day. We have been subjected to rude and aggressive behaviour from some parents when we have asked them to move their car so we can leave our car park safely. In the morning and at the end of the day, there are many examples of poor driving and parking. There is a clear sign that states that the car park is for Sixth Form and Staff Only.

Please can you support us by dropping and picking up your child using the designated spaces and perhaps consider arriving at 3.15 to pick up at the end of school day.

Many thanks for your support.

Sixth Form Students

As a consequence of repeated concerns raised regarding the safety of our students, please can we remind you that the car park is for Sixth Form students and staff only. To support our students and help them to feel safe, the car park will be locked between 2 and 3.15. Please do not use the entrance to turn or park as access is needed. We appreciate your support in this matter.

SPONSOR FOR SPORTS PRESENTATION EVENING

X template 2025 11 24T115247.746

Our annual Sports Presentation Evening is just around the corner, and we’re thrilled to announce that @berkscountyfcofficial will once again be sponsoring the event.

Our partnership with Berks County FC began in 2019, and it continues to go from strength to strength. Many Charters students proudly play for the club, and our school regularly hosts their training sessions and matches. Berks County FC offers opportunities for players of all ages, running teams from U7 to U18, as well as Men’s Vets, Men’s Reserves, and both Men’s and Women’s First Teams.

Chairman Steve Kay shared his enthusiasm for the event, saying, “All of us at Berks County FC are delighted to be able to sponsor the Sports Presentation Evening again this year. We love hearing about the incredible sporting achievements of the students and celebrating their success with them. As a community football club, it’s a pleasure to have such a strong partnership with Charters.”

We’re deeply grateful for their continued support and look forward to welcoming Berks County FC to our 2025 Sports Presentation Evening next month as we come together to celebrate the outstanding sporting talent within our school community.

SPONSOR FOR WINTER CONCERT

X template 2025 11 24T145027.052

We are delighted to share that H.Prestige Estates Ltd will be sponsoring our forthcoming Winter Concert on Wednesday 10 December. Viewed by many as the moment the festive season truly begins, this much-loved event brings our community together through a joyful mix of music and celebration.

The evening will feature a wonderful blend of solo performances alongside the Function Band, Jazz Band and our various school choirs, all filling the Main Hall with the sights and sounds that make this time of year so special. It is always a heartwarming occasion, and tickets can be purchased on ParentPay. We cannot wait to welcome families for what promises to be another memorable night and our sincere thanks go to H Prestige Estates Ltd for supporting this cherished annual event.

Although relatively new to South Ascot, the company is already becoming a valued community partner - having recently hosted a fantastic Halloween party at their Brockenhurst Road offices for local residents. We are grateful for their generosity and delighted to have them join us as we celebrate the season together.

WISH LIST 2025 NOW LIVE

A huge thank you to everyone who has already donated to our 2025 Wish List! Across the school, staff have been dreaming up the resources that would truly enrich daily life for their students. This year’s wishes range from a realistic “breathing” comfort puppy to help soothe unwell students, to a brand-new distortion pedal to inspire creativity in the Music Department.

We’re also excited to include wishes from our Tutor Teams for the very first time. They’ve seen how a simple five-minute game can spark laughter, build confidence, and strengthen the sense of community within their Tutor Groups. To help them continue this brilliant work, we’d love to provide 10 games for each year group from Years 7–11.

The cost to fulfil a full year group’s wish is £123 — and every contribution makes a difference.

  • Parents and carers can grant the wish of a single game.
  • Local businesses may like to sponsor an entire year group for just £123 (Please contact our Marketing Manager if you have a business that could help)

If you’re able, please consider supporting this year’s Wish List – either via ParentPay or by using our secure online giving platform CAF Donate -  and helping us shape joyful, memorable moments for our students.

Thank you for your continued generosity & for making our wishes come true!

HOPE FOOD SHARE

X template (15)

The Hope Church food share takes place each Tuesday from 12pm-1pm.

The items include mainly fresh food and bakery items donated from local supermarkets. The food is at the end of its shelf life (but still perfectly fine to eat!) and would otherwise just go to waste. Bring a bag to fill up, stop for a chat and a cup of tea (and cake!!) and warm up in the church. ALL welcome, no voucher/referral required.

Hope Church, Sunningdale, The Hope Centre, High Street Sunningdale, (next to Nag’s Head).
