Tesco Supports D.E.A.R. Time

Charters School is delighted to share that our students’ reading journeys have been given a wonderful boost, thanks to a generous £1,000 grant from the Tesco Stronger Starts initiative.

The funding has enabled the school to purchase brand-new books to support our much-loved D.E.A.R. time - Drop Everything & Read - where Key Stage 3 students immerse themselves in reading for 20 minutes each day. This daily routine sits at the heart of Charters' commitment to nurturing a lifelong love of reading for pleasure.

We are incredibly grateful to Tesco for this fantastic support, and to the loyal Tesco shoppers who chose to drop their blue tokens into the D.E.A.R. Time box in local stores. Their votes made this grant possible and will directly enhance the reading experience of our students.

Miss Joel, who leads the Powerful Reading initiative at Charters, carefully selected an eclectic and engaging mix of titles to appeal to a wide range of young readers. Among the new additions are You Are Awesome by Matthew Syed, Ultimate Football Heroes – Bellingham by Matt and Tom Oldfield, and The Royal Rebel by Bali Rai. The grant allowed us to purchase complete class sets of these books so that every student can enjoy something that sparks their interest.
