NEWSLETTER - 20th June 2025
This week, we were delighted to welcome back a former student who is now running an exciting start-up company developing educational AI platforms. Their innovative product is designed to support students with their writing and help them better understand assessment criteria. A group of Year 9 history students had the opportunity to trial the platform, using it to deepen both their subject knowledge and analytical writing skills. The students thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and their final pieces of writing showed not only progress but real insight, an encouraging sign of how technology can enhance learning when used meaningfully.
We’re also very proud of six of our talented mathematicians from Years 7 and 8 who recently took part in the Junior Kangaroo Maths Challenge. Just qualifying for this stage is an impressive achievement in itself, and we were thrilled that two of our students earned Gold Awards! A huge well done to Louie, Rafe, and Charlie in Year 7, and Theo, Ava, and Unays in Year 8—what a fantastic accomplishment.
Over 100 of our Year 7 students have spent the week in Dorset on their residential trip, blessed with beautiful weather and a packed programme of activities. The focus has been on building confidence, teamwork, and having fun. We have no doubt they’ll return home today tired but happy, with memories to last a lifetime.
We’re also incredibly proud of the many ways our students step up to lead and give back to the community. Through the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award—offered at Bronze, Silver, and Gold levels—students are developing valuable skills while making a real difference. Every week, Charters students contribute over 215 hours of voluntary work in our local area as part of their DofE commitments. What’s even more heartening is that many continue volunteering long after the programme ends. It’s inspiring to see our young people giving their time and energy to support others

NEWS IN BRIEF
MISS DE'ATH IS CHASING THE SUN
This weekend, the incredible Miss De’Ath is embarking on a truly epic cycling challenge – the legendary "Chase the Sun" ride! She'll be pedalling from Kent all the way to Weston-super-Mare, covering a whopping 206 miles in just one day – starting at sunrise and aiming to finish before the sun sets on the pier. No pressure, right?
But it doesn’t stop there – this isn’t just a flat Sunday spin. Along the way, she'll be tackling a leg-burning 3000m of elevation – that’s like climbing a small mountain… on a bike… in a day. An amazing feat of endurance, strength, and a touch of madness!
Miss De’Ath isn’t just doing this for fun (though we hear she loves a challenge!) – she’s riding to raise funds for a brilliant cause: the Rona Sailing Project, a charity she actively supports and sails with. The Rona Project offers young people and adults from all backgrounds the chance to experience adventure, personal growth, and teamwork through offshore sailing – something that can be truly life-changing.
If you’d like to support her in this huge undertaking and help raise money for this fantastic charity, please check out her fundraising page here: https://wonderful.org/fundraisers/ndpjz
Let’s cheer her on as she rides coast-to-coast with the sun!
BERKSHIRE SCHOOLS TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIP

OTHER ATHLETIC RESULTS
On Sunday Bethany also took part in the Welsh Outdoor Championships (Swansea), winning her heat to get through to the final. The final was closely contested with a photo finish between Bethany and another athlete where Bethany received a silver medal and a PB – 26.03sec in the 200m. Well done to Bethany on her continuing success.

HOPE CHURCH FOOD SHARE
The Hope Church food share takes place each Tuesday from 12pm-1pm.
The items include mainly fresh food and bakery items donated from local supermarkets. The food is at the end of its shelf life (but still perfectly fine to eat!) and would otherwise just go to waste. Bring a bag to fill up, stop for a chat and a cup of tea (and cake!!) and warm up in the church. ALL welcome, no voucher/referral required.
Hope Church, Sunningdale, The Hope Centre, High Street Sunningdale, (next to Nag’s Head).
