NEWSLETTER - 25th APRIL 2025

News round up (4)

A very warm welcome back to the Summer Term! We hope you all had a relaxing break and enjoyed time with your families over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend.  Over the next few weeks, the A-level, BTEC, and GCSE exams will begin. We wish all the students taking these during this stressful time all the very best.

The latest infographic from www.kidsonlineworld.com and be found here.  It focusses on how parents can unwittingly provide photographs and information on their own social media accounts about their children and the dangers of doing this.

Thank you for all the parents who have children in Years 7,8,9 & 10  who have completed the questionnaire regarding changes in approach to smart devices in school.   If you have not already done so the link is here

After 35 years of service to the school, Eric Smith is retiring as our groundsman.  People have said that Eric is like a stick of rock with Charters written through him.  From marking out pitches, the running track and maintaining the detached field and the other sports areas in school Eric has always had one thing in his mind: perfection.  He has supported the school during snow days, building works in ensuring that the site is as safe as possible.  In 2008, he was instrumental in the school winning the best kept school award.  The maintenance of the school site is amazing and down to his dedication and hard work, we wish Eric all the best in his retirement.

UKMT TEAM CHALLENGE

GpNe4J0XAAA8xDY

Congratulations to four young mathematicians, Woody, Jessica, Zara and Andres who participated in a Regional UKMT Team Mathematical Challenge at Vyners School in Uxbridge with Mr McNamara last month.  The Team Maths Challenge (TMC) promotes mathematical dexterity, teamwork and communication skills. It also gives students the opportunity to compete against students from other schools in their region, including Eton, Vyners, Heathfield and Merchant Taylors. Given the tight competition and the fact it was their first time to partake in the challenge since Covid, they did Charters proud and had lots of fun in the process too!  A massive thanks to Mr McNamara for taking them!

CONSULTATION ON THE VICTORY FIELD RECREATION GROUND

Consultation is open until 31 May 2025

NOTICE TILES (6)

The Parish Council is responsible for taking care of Victory Field Recreation Ground, making sure this remains a wonderful space for all our residents and visitors to enjoy.

Most of the current equipment is at the end of its utility life and we are looking to improve the playpark and provide an exciting, inclusive and challenging play space for residents and visitors.

We’re planning a project to fully refurbish the area; our goal is to improve the facilities for the health and wellbeing of all who use this space.

Victory Field Recreation Ground, Sunninghill, SL5 7DG, was purchased in 1919 for the local community and for the children of Sunninghill to have a playing field. Soldiers who had just fought in the First World War were employed to level off the ground to create a football pitch, with a steep bank to provide a natural grandstand. Since 1919, Victory Field has been well used by Sunninghill residents for recreation, children’s play, tennis, an outdoor gym and as a skate park, amongst other uses.

We really want to hear your thoughts. Your input is vital to help us ensure our ideas match what you, our residents, want. The closing date is 31 May 2025.

Please follow this link to take part in the consultation: Victory Field Consultation Survey

Further information can be found on our website: Victory Field Consultation – Sunninghill & Ascot Parish Council
