NEWSLETTER - 16 DECEMBER

HIGHLIGHTS

The Christmas Carol service on Monday evening at Holy Trinity Church in Sunningdale was a lovely festive occasion.  It was fantastic to hear the students singing and playing once again.  Thank you to all who came along.  It certainly helped to start the festive season for those in attendance.

This week also saw the students having their Christmas lunch in the Dining Hall, over 800 students sat down with their friends over the two days to enjoy a delicious Christmas lunch with crackers as well.  It was lovely to see them all sitting down chatting away and sharing very poor jokes from the crackers.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a peaceful Christmas and a Happy New Year.

TRAFFIC AND CAR PARK

I appreciate that it has been cold but could I remind drivers to be considerate when picking up and dropping off around the local area.   We have recently had a couple of near misses where drivers are impatience or park in inconsiderate places around the local area on the roads and also in the Leisure Centre car park.

During cold weather we do our up most to make sure that designated paths and roadways are gritted.  The Leisure Centre car park is not an area that we have the resources to grit.  As such, if you drive in to the car park after very cold weather or snow you need to make sure you drive in a way that is commensurate with the conditions.

COPPER COINS NEEDED

Do you have any copper coins lying around the house? The Maths department is looking for donations of 1p and 2p coins so that students can take part in the TRADING GAME in the new year.

The Trading Game is played with a large number of students and begins to teach them about the effect on prices of supply and demand by emulating a very basic stock exchange.  Students start the game with two trading cards (each representing a commodity) and no money.  They are given 30 minutes to buy and sell their commodities at the six trading stations with the aim of making as much money as possible. Not all commodities are sold at all trading stations and as stock supplies change in each location, the prices fluctuate.

We played this game with Year 7 students during last summer's Maths Day  and it was a great success.  We use real copper coins in the stock exchanges as the easiest way to keep track of which students are raising the most money by their trading abilities and are looking for a stock of coins so that we can play the game with more year groups.

If you can support this initiative we would be really grateful and students can give the coins to their Maths teachers during Maths lessons in the new year. Thank you.

CHRISTMAS DRAW

Thank you to everyone who has supported our fundraising campaigns this term. We are acutely aware that budgets are being stretched as the cost-of-living crisis continues and we are truly humbled by the support we have received from parents, carers and our wider school community.

Our Virtual Christmas Draw raised £2070 which this year will be set aside to help our Art & Design Departments. Thank you to a very kind family, Sunninghill Carpets and FlooringBerkeley Homes and the Berystede Hotel and Spa who sponsored the prizes this year.

WISH LISTS

Thank you for supporting our Wish Lists.

The annual Wish List campaign has so far raised £2244.98, which is truly amazing! Wishes have been granted across the school, from tennis balls for the PE department to sets of ‘class readers’ for the English department. The lists will close on 4 January, so should you still want to contribute to this initiative you have a few more weeks in which to do so.

A complete list of ‘Wishes’ can be viewed here. Thank you and merry Christmas.

UNIFORM DONATIONS

We would be grateful to receive donations of navy school jumpers, girls' blazers, lower and upper school ties and black trousers.

Please ask your child fto bring any donated uniform to Mrs Welham's office which is ii the Sixth Form block.  Go up the stairs and turn left.  Many thanks.
