NEWSLETTER - 30th JANUARY 2026

News round up (4)

Tuesday, 27th January marked the annual Holocaust Memorial Day, its focus this year is on bridging generations.  Mr Matthews, Head of History, led the assemblies on the importance of the day and remembering the horrific events that led to the holocaust being able to take place.  Something that we should all be watchful of across the world.   In countries with which we, as the UK, have positive relationships or not. Small, unchecked steps can lead to horrendous outcomes when we allow hatred to take a foothold and go unchecked.

We have two students, Ella and Freddie, in Year 13 who are becoming our Holocaust Educational Trust Ambassadors and participating in the Lessons From Auschwitz programme.  This will involve them listening to a Holocaust survivor, undertaking a trip to Auschwitz, and then leading a project in school to raise awareness on the topic.

We had 110 students across Year 9 & 10 taking part in the National Maths Challenge this week.  The Challenge is an hour-long test which challenges individual mental arithmetic skills, armed only with a pencil and a piece of paper, to do their workings out and their mathematical approach to the problems.  It was wonderful so many students taking part.

As the rain has come down relentlessly this week, students have been taking part in a drumming workshop using steel drums and other styles of drums.  On cold, wet days, the sound of the Caribbean does bring a little sunshine to the school.

Thank you to everyone who donated to the Food bank collection this week (290 items collected) and who have contributed to the House Charity Mufti day today, so far £1,286.40 has been raised.  Donations for Mufti can still be made via ParentPay until Monday.  Thank you.

Parking and driving in the local area

Can drivers at pick up and drop off please be considerate when parking in the local area.  We have a number of our neighbours who are raising issues around people parking across driveways, parking on bends and using private driveways to turn.  This has led to lights being damaged on driveways.  This has happened for example, at Thimble Hall Development.

Can all drivers please show consideration to our neighbours.

Thank you all in advance for your support with this.

The Hope Church food share takes place each Tuesday from 12pm-1pm.

The items include mainly fresh food and bakery items donated from local supermarkets. The food is at the end of its shelf life (but still perfectly fine to eat!) and would otherwise just go to waste. Bring a bag to fill up, stop for a chat and a cup of tea (and cake!!) and warm up in the church. ALL welcome, no voucher/referral required.

Hope Church, Sunningdale, The Hope Centre, High Street Sunningdale, (next to Nag’s Head).
