NEWSLETTER - 19th SEPTEMBER 2025
Sometimes, the small joys of being in a school can be remarkable. Early in the week, I was sitting in an area of the school close to the Main Hall when, at lunchtime, I heard some wonderful piano playing wafting out of the double doors. I walked through the hall to see a student from Year 10 practising different complex pieces as they are building towards the next grading. Not only was the music beautiful, but it was inspiring to see someone with passion and the dedication to sit to improve their playing.
National Inclusion Week took place this week. As a school, we believe that inclusion in its broadest sense is very important not just in the school community but in wider society. So at Charters, Inclusion means:
Inclusion is the commitment to ensuring that every student, regardless of their background, ability, or personal circumstances, feels valued, supported, and able to participate fully in all aspects of school life. It means removing barriers to learning and wellbeing, celebrating diversity, and creating a safe, respectful environment where all students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
It has been great to hear the students' views on what inclusion means to them. Have a look at our socials to see what our students and staff have been sharing this week. Over the forthcoming months we will be working with groups of students to look at how we can promote inclusion more across our community, but also look at ways that we can support students in their understanding of how they can support inclusion.
Thirty Year 10 students have been in Tyrabad this week on a leadership course, developing their teamwork and leadership skills through a series of challenges in high-stress situations, as well as dealing with the weather in South Wales! They will come back exhausted from all the physical activity and the thinking they have had to do.
Assemblies this week have been focused on the services that are available in school to help with student wellbeing, and students can access them. Should any student feel they need extra support with academic work, they should speak to their teacher, and if they need support with well-being or social issues, they should speak to their tutor or Deputy Head of Year.
Year 11 were off timetable today, working with staff and external providers on further developing their skills around revision techniques and wellbeing in the build-up to their first set of public exams. Part of the day they learnt about the importance of planning success and working through systems to enable consistency and what to do when something doesn’t go to plan. They can start to use this extra advice as they build towards their first set of PPE’s in November.
We ran our first fire drill of the year on Tuesday. The whole school was evacuated within 4 minutes 30 seconds, and the roll call was completed within 11 minutes. Very impressive when you consider there are close to 2000 people on the school site. Thank you to all who followed the procedures, making it efficient, fast and safe.
Next week, we will be carrying out a lockdown drill, which will ensure that all students are aware of our procedures in the event of an emergency lockdown.

Music and Academic Success Go Hand in Hand at Charters

Celebrating National Inclusion Week at Charters School
Year 12 student Leo plays for the U16 American Football team Rushmoor Knights who successfully defended their championship title this summer, making them back to back National Finals champions! It has been an exciting season for the team and they have played so well, thoroughly deserving their semi-final win against Yorkshire Assassins which meant they faced the East Kilbride Pirates in the final. EKP were worthy opponents but the Knights held on to take the win 20 -18. The next step is the U19 team where they change to 9 a side.
A huge well done, and we understand that the champions ring that was won is quite something!

HOPE FOOD SHARE
The Hope Church food share takes place each Tuesday from 12pm-1pm.
The items include mainly fresh food and bakery items donated from local supermarkets. The food is at the end of its shelf life (but still perfectly fine to eat!) and would otherwise just go to waste. Bring a bag to fill up, stop for a chat and a cup of tea (and cake!!) and warm up in the church. ALL welcome, no voucher/referral required.
Hope Church, Sunningdale, The Hope Centre, High Street Sunningdale, (next to Nag’s Head).
