A Warm Welcome Back (despite the weather)

It is a real pleasure to welcome everyone in our community back to school. We hope you enjoyed a restful and refreshing summer break. While the school wasn’t open to students every day, the site was a hive of activity – from Summer School for our new Year 7 students, to summer camps where older students took on leadership roles, and of course, the excitement of results days for Sixth Form and Year 11. There were many moments of celebration, with plenty of smiles, cheers, and well-deserved pride.

We are delighted to share that exam results this summer were very strong. At GCSE, outcomes remain well above national averages, which is a real credit to the dedication of our students, the support of families, and the commitment of staff. In the Sixth Form, there was success across a wide range of subjects, with students progressing on to university courses, employment, and high-level apprenticeships.  We are proud of every one of them.

Now that the term is underway, it is wonderful to see the school brought to life once again by the energy of our students. Year 7 are already beginning to find their feet, and we are grateful to the Year 11 students who came in early to help them settle. We know our new starters will quickly feel part of our community and take full advantage of the opportunities ahead – from the classroom to the Freshers’ Fair.  There are a wide range of activities on offer which can be found HERE , including a new addition this year of juggling!

I would encourage all students to look at the opportunities on offer at school.

A gentle reminder that phones should be in pouches from the moment students arrive at school until the end of the school day, and that school uniform should be worn each day, including lanyards. After the summer break, naturally, routines may take a little time to re-establish, but getting back into rhythm will help everyone make a strong start to the year.

Finally, please do remember that the school website is a rich source of information about the curriculum and the learning journey in each year group. Links to key pages can always be found at the bottom of this newsletter.

ECAs
X template 2025 09 05T083007.675

ECAs are at the core of Charters School's ethos, and we are keen for students to find at least one activity - either at 2nd break or after school - to try as they begin the new academic year.

Most of our ECAs will begin next week, and this information will be communicated to students through the Student Daily Dispatch which drops into their inbox every evening.

You can take a look at this term's ECAs below. The page is updated regularly with any cancellations, and we encourage students and parents/carers to check here instead of calling the school.

Autumn Term ECA timetables

While the vast majority of our ECAs are free, information regarding all paid-for ECAs will be sent to all parents/carers next week.

SCHOOL LOCKERS
X template (5)

There are currently a few lockers remaining for hire by students for this academic year.  The lockers are owned by ILS and are available for students to rent on an annual basis. The rental cost is £25 per year, allowing use from September through to July.

It is not compulsory for every student to hire a locker, but it saves students carrying heavy bags around the school site.

If you would like to hire a locker for your child please visit the ILS website at www.ilsschools.co.uk.

LEGACY FUND
X template (6)

We would like to express our thanks to the parents/carers who made donations totalling £645 to our Legacy Fund as their child left Charters this summer.  Their names will appear in our Main Hall and we will use the funds to support emotional wellbeing for current students. We thank them for leaving a legacy for the next generation.
