NEWSLETTER - 27th June 2025
The PE department organised the annual leadership day for Year 9 students on Tuesday. The day is about developing team building and leadership skills amongst the students. Over the course of the day, the students took on different activities to help develop these skills. From the activities, 78 students have been identified to take on leadership roles within the department. It was wonderful to see the students throwing themselves (literally in some cases) into the activities, supporting and coaching each other as well as developing confidence in public speaking. Thank you to Mrs Richardson, who organised the day and all the other staff who gave up their time to make it happen. This is one of a number of enrichment days coming up over the next three weeks for different year groups.
As many parents and carers will be aware, we periodically invite a company into school which specialises in drugs detection. This is primarily done as a preventative safeguarding measure and part of our proactive and robust approach against use of illegal substances. Today, we had our final visit of the year, this time unannounced, and we are delighted to report that there were zero indications over the day. We intend to maintain a high profile and zero-tolerance approach in the area and continue to focus on educating students on the dangers of illegal substances. This includes the uncertainty of what may be in vapes. We do appreciate the support that we have received from the school community regarding our actions here and thank you for delivering a consistent message at home.
Congratulations to Ben in Year 7 who ran 12.1 seconds for the 75 metres hurdles in the recent Berkshire Athletics Championship, equalling the meets fastest time, set by Josh Zeller a current GB high hurdler. The time is the fastest in the country for his age group this year!
Congratulations to Ms De’Ath, who officially beat the sun last weekend! Taking part in the Chase the Sun race, she started at 5:02 am in Minster-on-Sea in Kent and arrived in Weston-Super-Mare 206 miles away at 19:44, a total time of 11hours 42mins. An amazing achievement.
Ms De'Ath reported that it was an epic day with sunshine, rain, headwinds for the last 15miles and even blistering heat as they tackled the climbs in the Mendips. If you’d like to donate to the Rona Sailing Project that Ms De'Ath rode for, please go to her fundraising page here: https://wonderful.org/fundraisers/ndpjz
Monday & Tuesday Heat
The temperature is due to rise about 30 degrees, students will be able to wear school PE kit if they wish to. Can I recommend that parents to make sure that they have sunscreen on and have a water bottle with them.
Thank You
To all the parents who left lovely comments for staff, these have been passed on and I know that staff have been pleased to receive them. Thank you for your ongoing support. In addition, thank you to all who completed the parents ’ surveys. Heads of Year will be writing to you in September with the feedback for your child's year group.

1st Sunningdale Scouts have been active in Sunningdale for over 100 years and have always been very popular, with most Sections full. But they currently have places free for new Explorer Scouts - young people aged 14+. We have spaces free now or for those old enough in September. Explorers get to participate in a programme of activities and events in the Scout Hut and beyond, with past trips including sea kayaking, wild camping, yachting, hiking and caving, as well as camps in the UK and recently to Morocco.
You don't need to have been in Scouts before to be an Explorers - it's open to everyone - and we regularly have new young people join us who enjoy joining in the activities with a group of like-minded friends. To find out more, and to join us, email enquiries@sunningdalescouts.org.uk or visit www.sunningdalescouts.org.uk/wp/get-involved/apply-to-join-a-section/

HOPE CHURCH FOOD SHARE
The Hope Church food share takes place each Tuesday from 12pm-1pm.
The items include mainly fresh food and bakery items donated from local supermarkets. The food is at the end of its shelf life (but still perfectly fine to eat!) and would otherwise just go to waste. Bring a bag to fill up, stop for a chat and a cup of tea (and cake!!) and warm up in the church. ALL welcome, no voucher/referral required.
Hope Church, Sunningdale, The Hope Centre, High Street Sunningdale, (next to Nag’s Head).
