News round up (4)

This week, we have explained the new policy on Smart Devices to students and the reasons for making this change.  Thank you to all who have completed the questionnaire we have sent out to parents.  We are still chasing 160 returns out of 1200 students.   If you have not done so already, please complete the questionnaire here.

A PowerPoint regarding the new procedures can be found HERE and a  video for parents will be available next week to accompany this presentation.

A study was done at Carnegie Mellon University on the impact of phones in the classroom, and the short clip below highlights their findings:

May Ball Year 13

On Friday, 2 May the Year 13 students all came together for the May Ball held at the Berystede Hotel.  The event is a wonderful evening for the students and the staff alike. the students have a reception in the hotel garden and then move inside for a sit-down meal and dancing!  They then melted away to various different after Ball parties after the Ball parties.  As always, it was a lovely occasion and a time for staff and students to share memories of the last 7 years for some and two years for others.

Thank you and congratulations

Thank you to Arun, Diba, Henry and Lois (our Head Students) who are stepping down after a year in post.  They have been excellent role models to younger students in school and their peers as well as being wonderful ambassadors for the school in the local community and beyond.

Congratulations to Arya , Emmanuel, Isaac and Michaela who have been appointed as the new Head Students.

Year 11 & Year 13 starting study leave

We want to wish all our students sitting public examinations over the next 6 weeks all the very best, we are sure that all the hard work and dedication you have shown to your studies will be rewarded in August when the results are published.  Remember the information from the recent well-being presentation during the exam season, and remember we are all here to help and support you.

Year 13 had a wonderful leavers' assembly this morning, strange to see them now in the reverse of how they appeared in Year 7, with oversized blazers to now blazers that are too small and tight.  Some fantastic memories for them all.  We wish them all the very best during the exam season and beyond.

Sporting successes

Our school golf team has qualified for the national school championships, with two of the team being selected to play for Berkshire as well.  A tremendous achievement for the team as a whole.

We also have two of our football teams in the County Cup Finals coming up in the next couple of weeks.

NOTICE TILES (10)

Thank you to the families who have contributed to the school's Legacy Fund. The names of all donors will feature on our Legacy Wall in the Main Hall and this year’s donations will once again support a series of mental health workshops. Should you have a child in Years 11 or 13 and wish to make a donation as they finish their time at Charters, please follow this link which will take you to our secure online CAF Donation page.

We are mindful that the whole of the UK is experiencing a rise in the cost of living and are aware that this will have an impact on many of our families. With this in mind we would like to encourage the donation of any unwanted text books and good quality uniform after the exams. These can be left in the boxes in our Main Reception and will benefit students in need.
