Charters School was buzzing with excitement on Saturday as students, families, staff and members of the local community came together for our Literary Festival & Summer Fayre – a wonderful celebration of our school values of Unity, Respect and Excellence.

The event welcomed a host of local charities, community organisations and non-profit groups, including The Sunninghill Trust, Ascot and Sunninghill Parish Council and Sunningdale Parish Council, showcasing the incredible work they do to support our local area and strengthening the links between the school and the wider community.

Adding to the community spirit, colleagues from Bracknell Fire Station brought along a fire engine that proved to be a huge attraction for visitors of all ages, while Thames Valley Police officers and Police Cadets gave guests the opportunity to explore a police car and create personalised fingerprint magnets, providing a fun and engaging way to learn more about the vital work of our emergency services.

Visitors enjoyed browsing a vibrant artisan marketplace, where talented local makers offered everything from handmade jewellery and skincare products to greeting cards and beautifully crafted resin chopping boards. In the Common Room there was something for everyone including Science department demonstrations, food-tasting and beautiful traditional Japanese bookmark making at the Japan Club stall, badge making with our Pride Society, and the English department invited visitors to take a chance on a 'Blind Date with a Book', encouraging readers to discover stories they might not otherwise have chosen.

Mrs MacGregor-Stubbs worked tirelessly to create an inspiring array of literary workshops in celebration of the National Year of Reading, while Miss Jordan's lively puppet workshop proved a firm favourite, delighting children and families alike as they discovered the magic of storytelling through puppetry. Adding to the festival atmosphere delightful literary scarecrows - including Tin Man, Harry Potter and Mary Poppins - guided guests around the site.

The power of storytelling continued with our talented Drama students, who captivated audiences with beautifully delivered Shakespeare readings, while a relaxed soundtrack from our outstanding Music students provided the perfect accompaniment throughout the day. Special thanks must go to Year 12 student Claudia, whose careful planning of the playlist and performer schedule helped create such a welcoming atmosphere.

Meanwhile, the Leisure Centre was transformed into a lively Game Zone by our youngest students. Packed with traditional stalls including Hook a Duck, Beat the Goalie and Guess the Teacher, it quickly became a favourite destination for families and younger visitors alike.

Students raising funds for their forthcoming expedition to Peru were kept busy throughout the day, selling plants, bird feeders, homemade lemonade and delicious cakes. However, the standout attraction was undoubtedly the ever-popular Sponge the Teacher, which drew a large crowd as Mr Fletcher good-humouredly stepped into the firing line, much to everyone's delight.

The school extends its sincere thanks to The Friends of Charters School, whose tireless work organising the BBQ, bar, cake stall and ever-popular Gift Tree helped make the event such a tremendous success.

Thanks to the generosity and support of everyone who attended, the Literary Festival & Summer Fayre has raised well over £3,000 towards upgrading the sound and lighting in the school's Main Hall. More importantly, it was a fantastic day that celebrated reading, creativity, community and the incredible spirit of Charters School.
