Year 9 Leadership Day – Developing Skills Beyond the Classroom
Todau our Year 9 students took part in an inspiring and energetic Leadership Day, a dedicated day of structured Physical Education activities designed to help students develop essential life skills that extend far beyond the sports field.
Throughout the day, students rotated through a range of workshops focused on key leadership qualities, including problem solving, fair play and the role of an official. Working collaboratively with their peers, students were challenged to communicate effectively, make decisions under pressure, show resilience and demonstrate empathy and integrity in a variety of sporting contexts.

The practical sessions took place across the school’s excellent sporting facilities, including the fields, gym, sports hall, astro pitches and tennis courts, with students taking on different responsibilities and reflecting on what it means to be a positive leader and team member.

In the afternoon, students put their skills into practice through a series of team sports, including handball, rounders, volleyball, netball, softball and football. These activities provided the perfect opportunity for students to demonstrate teamwork, encouragement, strategic thinking and respect for others - values that are central to the Charters community.

Leadership Day was a fantastic opportunity for Year 9 students to step outside their usual routines, build confidence and discover the many ways leadership can be shown both in sport and everyday life. The enthusiasm, teamwork and maturity displayed throughout the day were a credit to all involved.
A huge thank you goes to the PE department and all supporting staff who helped organise and deliver such a successful and enjoyable day. We look forward to seeing our students continue to apply these valuable leadership skills both in school and beyond.
