Year 13 Cooking Workshop
Although exams are just around the corner, we felt that our Year 13 students needed a well-deserved break from revision — and what better way to recharge than by getting stuck into some delicious, real-life skills?
Year 13 students at Charters Sixth Form swapped pens for pans this week in a lively and memorable Personal Development lesson, welcoming members of our fantastic catering team for a hands-on cooking workshop. With independence on the horizon, the session was all about giving students the confidence (and recipes!) they’ll need when they take their first steps away from home.

Organised by Impact Food, our school catering team, the workshop brought the classroom to life with buzzing cooking stations, fresh ingredients, and plenty of enthusiasm. Students rolled up their sleeves to create healthy, budget-friendly meals — proving that student cooking doesn’t have to mean instant noodles every night! Along the way, Impact Food's chef shared top tips on building the ultimate student “store cupboard,” showing how a few simple staples can go a long way.
But it wasn’t just about cooking — there was a competitive edge too! Students tested their knowledge in an interactive food quiz, learning how to plan balanced meals without breaking the bank. One standout tip? Charity shops are a goldmine for kitchen essentials — because when you’re cooking for one, you don’t need a full matching set!

The room was filled with energy, laughter, and the occasional questionable chopping technique, as students embraced the chance to try something new. More importantly, they left with a boost of confidence and a set of life skills that will serve them far beyond school.
