Last week students had the exciting opportunity to immerse themselves in Japanese history and culture during a special visit to the British Museum, where they explored the fascinating Samurai exhibition.

Organised as part of the school’s thriving Japan Club, the trip brought classroom learning to life. The exhibition challenged common myths surrounding samurai warriors, offering students a deeper understanding of their traditions, values, and the rich history behind these iconic figures. From intricately crafted armour to stories of honour and discipline, the experience captured the imagination of everyone involved.

The visit was made even more memorable thanks to the generosity of the museum’s education team, who provided free access to the exhibition, as well as dedicated facilities for students to store belongings and enjoy their lunch together.

Japan Club continues to go from strength to strength and is open to students across all year groups, creating an inclusive space where anyone with an interest in Japan can get involved. The club celebrates a wide range of Japanese culture and customs - from history and language to food, festivals, and modern life - making it a vibrant and welcoming community within the school.

A special thank you goes to Mr Greaves, whose careful planning and leadership made the trip such a success. His enthusiasm and commitment ensure that students are given meaningful opportunities to experience Japanese culture beyond the classroom.

For those inspired by the trip, Japan Club meets every Monday (Week A) in T13 from 3:15pm to 4:15pm. New members are always welcome, and students are encouraged to come along and be part of this engaging and culturally enriching experience.

Take a look at the informative document below which was put together following the trip by Year 9 students Carys, Riley and Emily. The three students gave a presentation during this week's club to their fellow Japan Club members.
