Following last year’s fantastic success, our students have once again demonstrated the power of creativity through the Show Racism the Red Card competition.

Open to students in Years 7–10 and Year 12, the competition encourages young people to explore anti-racism messages — including challenging antisemitism — through artwork, creative writing, film, music  or even football boot and T-shirt designs The possibilities truly are endless.

This year, we were incredibly proud to celebrate our talented students who are the winners and runners-up at school-level.

Each submission reflected thoughtfulness, courage and a genuine commitment to promoting equality and respect. We had several poems submitted but the two below stood out.  This honest and thought-provoking poem by Julian reminds us of our shared humanity and is a heartfelt reminder that while we may look different, we share the same hopes, dreams and right to dignity.

We are one

We are one
We are all born without blame
Created all the same
We all have flesh and bones
Despite our different tones
We all have hopes and dreams
Of which are various themes.
Everyone has love to give
We all have a right to live
Free in our humanity
We all have family
Make room for all our glory
We all have a story
These similarities we share
Yet some don’t seem to care
And if we try to change this
Then maybe, just maybe, they’ll stop taking the p**s.

We are also incredibly proud of Aiko (Year 8), whose powerful poem calls for unity, fairness and courage in standing up to injustice. Aiko’s message captures perfectly what this competition represents — standing together, celebrating diversity, and ensuring there is no place for racism in our communities.

Show racism the RED CARD

We may look different on the outside
Different hair, different skin, different pride
But inside we laugh, we hope, we care
The same kind of dream we all share

No one should be judged before they speak
No one should be made to feel small and weak
Words can hurt and leave a mark
Like shadows growing in the dark

So we show racism the red card today
So that injustice has no place to stay
We choose kindness, respect and trust
Treating people fairly is something we must

Together we stand side by side
With open hearts and nothing to hide
Many cultures, many voices — one team we can be
A world built on respect and equality

In the Art and T-shirt category Elizabeth in Year 10 designed a thought provoking sports shirt with "We Are One Race - Human Race" emblazoned on the front. Nikhil in Year 8 created a striking piece of artwork on canvas promoting the theme of Unity, while Robert in Year 8 stayed with the theme and the competition, reminding everyone to respect others and Show Racism the Red Card.

We are incredibly proud of every student who took part and their entries have now been submitted to a National competition. We wish them all the best. Their creativity helps to spark conversations, challenge prejudice and strengthen our shared commitment to equality.

Racism has no place at Charters School.  We encourage all students to get involved and not to tolerate racism in any form. Together, we continue to stand united — because every voice matters, and every story deserves to be heard.
