We’re delighted to celebrate a fantastic achievement from one of our talented athletes - Year 10 student Jessica recently won her first gold medal in the Elite Épée EEJS (Elite Épée Junior Series) Fencing Under-17 competition. The event, held at the City of London Freemen’s School Sports Centre in Ashtead Park, brought together some of the strongest young fencers in the region — and Jessica rose brilliantly to the challenge.

Representing her club, Luso International, Jessica demonstrated exceptional skill, focus, and determination throughout the competition. Her hard-earned victory is a testament not only to her talent but also to the commitment she has shown to developing her sport. "I started fencing at the start of Year 9," Jessica said "It was difficult since everyone began training at a young age; I found it tough to catch up." She added  "The competitions are unlike anything I've ever experienced."

Jessica’s fencing journey continues to grow. She is now preparing for an exciting international competition -Challenge Wratislavia -  in Wroclaw, Poland in March. This fencing tournament has a great tradition and brings together competitors from around the world and Jessica will travel alongside her coaches to compete on this global stage. "I'm really looking forward to competing internationally and seeing how other countries fence." she concluded.

Jessica trains two to three times a week and will be continuing to fence nationally throughout the year as she builds on this remarkable momentum.

We are incredibly proud of Jessica’s achievement and the dedication she brings to her training. We look forward to following her progress and cheering her on in the months ahead.

Well done, Jessica — and good luck in Poland!
