Together we “Show Racism the Red Card”

Today, the Charters School community came together in a sea of red to show our support for Show Racism the Red Card, the UK’s leading anti-racism education charity.
The campaign, established in January 1996 with the help of former Newcastle United goalkeeper Shaka Hislop, uses the high-profile platform of football and other sports to challenge racism and promote equality.
The charity’s beginnings were inspired by a powerful moment in the 1990s. While filling his car near St James’ Park, Shaka Hislop was subjected to racist abuse from a group of young people. When they realised who he was, their attitude changed instantly; they asked him for an autograph. This experience led Shaka to help found an organisation dedicated to tackling racism through education and understanding.
At Charters, wearing red today is more than a symbolic gesture. It’s a statement of unity - that every member of our community is valued, respected, and equal.
Thank you to all students, staff, and families who took part and helped turn our school red with positivity, pride, and purpose.
Together, we are saying loud and clear: Racism has no place here.
