School Celebrates New Garden Space for Alternative Provision

This week, Charters School proudly welcomed guests to a very special celebration in the Sowers & Growers Garden - a blossoming space that is fast becoming the heart of the school’s new alternative provision for students.
The celebratory event brought together supporters, local companies, Trustees, and senior leaders, offering them the chance to explore the garden first-hand and see the incredible transformation taking shape.
What was once an overgrown and overlooked area of the school grounds has now been reimagined as a nurturing outdoor classroom - a place where students who find mainstream education challenging can access personalised learning, reconnect with nature, and develop confidence through meaningful activity.
Key to this transformation has been Taylor Wimpey, whose generous donation and construction of the garden’s outdoor classroom, base, footpath, and storage shed has laid the essential foundations for this unique space to thrive.
“The support from Taylor Wimpey has been nothing short of extraordinary,” said Mr Watts, the school's Internal Alternative Provision Lead. “They have helped us turn our vision into a reality, creating a space that not only looks beautiful but has genuine purpose and impact for our young people.”
Alongside Taylor Wimpey, a number of local businesses and individuals have also stepped forward to lend time, resources, and expertise; from donating materials to offering specialist advice, they all share the belief that every student deserves a place to grow.
Guests at the event were treated to tours of the garden beds, the new outdoor classroom, and examples of the student-led work already underway. For many, it was a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when a community rallies around a cause with heart.
“This garden is already changing lives,” said Mr Fletcher. “Students are learning practical skills, building positive relationships, and feeling proud of what they’re achieving. It’s been transformative.”
While still a work in progress, the Sowers & Growers Garden stands as a testament to what collaboration, compassion, and vision can accomplish. With continued support, it will only keep growing - just like the students it’s here to serve.
