At second break on the last day of National Careers Week 2023, our Sixth Form students listened to an inspiring presentation which was delivered by Liane Hawthorne.

Liane is the Director of Sales and Customer Support across Europe for The Myers-Briggs Company, and she spoke with the students about the decisions she has made and the motivations that have informed these decisions throughout her career.

Results Day 2022 (54)

Liane grew up in Canada and she recalled what it felt like to have so many choices as she approached the end of high school. It's great when your life can go in any direction, but too many choices can quickly become overwhelming and Liane found that the best way for her to move forward was to think about what she really liked, and then pinpoint why she enjoyed them. She enjoyed science, puzzles, fixing problems and helping people, and after discounting medicine, veterinary studies and microbiology she embarked on a degree in psychology.

After graduation Liane moved to the UK and again thought about what she liked and realised that it was a fascination with people; she enjoyed asking questions, was nosey and wasn't shy, and so she began working in sales.

Results Day 2022 (55)

For the past 20 years Liane has worked for MBTI and her background in psychology is the perfect fit for this company who specialise in personality instruments, training, coaching and development. Liane has found a career that helps people, (which was always her main driver), and she also finds her role interesting, valuable and rewarding; which she advised the students are the key factors for staying motivated.

We would like to thank Liane for rounding off our Careers week with such an insightful and motivating presentation.
