It is just over a week until the opening night of this year's Senior Production Private Peaceful - the moving play based on the book by Michael Morpurgo.  We caught up with two of the leads, Zara and Rueben to get the inside track on what it is like to be part of this inspiring project.

What part are you playing?

Zara:  I’m playing Charlie Peaceful who is Tommos brother.

Reuben: I am playing young Tommo Peaceful.

What made you audition for the part?

Zara:  I auditioned for Private Peaceful because I have never done a production like this before and just because I love the Drama department at Charters!

Reuben: I auditioned for this role as I wanted to do a different style of acting to what I normally do which is normally musical theatre.

What is Private Peaceful about?

Zara: Private Peaceful is about two brothers who are very different in character but care about each other a lot. They both enlist in the army and go through the experiences of a WW1 soldier together, leaving their family in Devon.

Reuben: Private Peaceful is about two brothers living in the countryside, they have a pretty normal life until they take part in the war.

How relevant is the story to current events?

Zara: The play is relevant to today because opening night is less than two weeks after Remembrance Day, where we honour the soldiers who gave their lives for our country.

Reuben: It is quite similar to current events in the way that life can change very quickly but also not as lots of the rules that they had in the war were very old fashioned.

What have you learnt from being part of the Senior Production?

Zara: I have learnt better leadership skills since being in the Senior School Production as well as having made some great new friends!

Reuben: I have learnt a lot about teamwork and also giving it your all. I have also learnt that you need commitment for these productions.
