Technology students at Charters School will be immersed in a vibrant and inclusive curriculum that fosters creativity, curiosity, and problem-solving. Through engaging with a wide range of materials - spanning Graphics, Resistant Materials, Textiles, and Food - they will develop practical skills and technical understanding, supported by cross-curricular links to STEM subjects. Our hands-on approach encourages students to take design risks, explore innovative solutions, and build resilience. We are committed to creating a safe and supportive environment where every student can thrive through purposeful experimentation and real-world application of design principles.

Our main priority is for students to be problem solvers who are not afraid of making mistakes. The subject embeds high quality literacy skills through analysis and evaluation techniques. Through the curriculum, students are actively contributing to the creativity, culture, wealth and wellbeing of themselves.

This means:

  • They will learn about types, sources and properties of fibres and fabrics.
  • Via application, they will learn a range of processes used to manufacture textiles based products including decoration and construction.
  • They will apply investigation strategies to inform the development of their designs.
  • Innovative design strategies will be adopted to ensure their product is fit for purpose.
  • They will develop analytical and evaluative skills and be confident enough to self-reflect, which leads to further exploration of ideas.
