1. What makes Charters Sixth Form special?

Charters Sixth Form offers the perfect balance of academic success with the luxury of still being in school where you have a dedicated team of staff looking after the well-being of students from a pastoral perspective. We pride in shaping the future of our students by guiding them to strive to get the best possible grades, become responsible citizens by actively engaging not only in the school community, but by getting involved in the wider local community as well.

2. How do staff support the Sixth Form students?

Besides having subject experts delivering quality academic lessons, the Sixth Formers have a dedicated team of pastoral staff to look after their well-being whilst the students are at Charters. They have their Head of Year, their Tutors, an experienced team of five Sixth Form Support Officers, access to the Well Being officers and regular sessions with various members of SLT to be able to discuss all the issues that might be affecting them.

3. What opportunities are there in addition to the academic ones?

Besides countless opportunities to gain practical know-how about their academic subjects through trips, Sixth Form students have the opportunity to get actively involved in the school and the wider local community through their Enrichment options. Students can choose from a wide variety of options ranging from sign language, debating club, drama society, the school newspaper, various fitness and sporting clubs, Japanese club, visiting the local primary schools and the OAP day centres. We encourage our students to become Academic or Pastoral Leaders to enable them to develop their leadership skills and help our younger students in the school.

4. What support is offered in terms of preparing for ‘Life After Charters’?

Students are guided to carefully think about their life after Charters. Our experienced staff guide them through the UCAS application process, getting the personal statements ready, researching and finalising their University choices. Students who want to take the apprenticeship/ work-based routes are helped to get their cv/ resume ready along with the guidance to select the appropriate apprenticeship routes. Whilst the students are with us, they are also guided to short online courses to strengthen their knowledge about finance, paying bills, taking out a mortgage, credit/ debit cards as well as how to manage their student loans for their further studies. Students undertake a placement in various industries for their Work Experience towards the end of Year 12 to give them the experience of the working world.

5. What do you enjoy most about being Head of Year 13?

No two days are the same when you are a Head of Year. I adore the constant change and the constant activity involved in ensuring that the students in my year group not only achieve academic success, but emerge as well-rounded successful young adults.
