News round up (4)

As we return after half term, we will be introducing a tighter approach to punctuality to lessons. Students arriving more than one minute after the start of a lesson will no longer be admitted to the classroom. With the five-minute movement time between lessons, alongside the bell that rings five minutes before the start of Period 5 following second break, students have ample time to arrive promptly and be ready to learn.

When we previously reduced the grace period to three minutes, we saw a very positive impact on learning and lesson starts across the school. Unfortunately, too many students have come to view the current system as allowing an additional three minutes before lessons truly begin. By tightening expectations further, we are aiming to ensure calm, purposeful starts to lessons and maximise learning time for all students. Punctuality, both to school and to lessons, remains an important life skill and a key part of our school culture around RESPECT for others and promoting EXCELLENCE

Over the next few weeks, we are also running our annual parent and student surveys. This year, we are using a national education survey platform to help us gather and analyse feedback more effectively. A link was sent out by email last week and again on Tuesday. If you have not yet completed the survey, we would be extremely grateful if you could take a few moments to do so, as your feedback is invaluable in helping us continue to develop and improve.

Today, we celebrated our Year 9 Key Stage 3 Graduation. This marks an important milestone as students prepare to begin their GCSE courses after half term. The special assembly recognised not only the subject knowledge and skills students have developed throughout Key Stage 3, but also the resilience, maturity and attitudes that will help them approach the next stage of their education with confidence and ambition. It was a lovely opportunity to celebrate how far they have come and look ahead to the exciting journey to come.

Finally, thank you to the Music Department for hosting the fifth Chamber Concert of the academic year. These smaller, intimate performances provide students with a wonderful opportunity to develop their confidence and showcase their talents in front of an audience. Wednesday’s concert featured some fantastic performances, and we are incredibly proud of all the students who took part. Thank you also to the staff, families and friends who came along to support them.

Wishing you a restful and warm half term.

HOUSE BOOK CHARACTER SCARECROW COMPETITION

Mp

As part of our Literary Festival & Summer Fayre on Saturday 4th July (12–4pm), we are creating a Book Character Scarecrow Trail around the school site!

Visitors will follow a map to discover scarecrows inspired by famous book characters, collecting letters along the way to solve a hidden phrase and enter a prize draw.

Students are invited to design and build their own book-themed scarecrow for the trail — and every entry can earn House Points as part of our House Competition!

Characters could include:
Harry Potter
Matilda
The Gruffalo
Alice in Wonderland
Sherlock Holmes
Or any favourite literary character!

Use old clothes, cardboard, fabric, recycled materials and lots of imagination to bring your character to life.

Before bringing your scarecrow into school:
• Take a photo
• Upload it via Teams (details to follow)

Completed scarecrows should be brought into school during the week commencing 29th June.

Find full competition details here:

NEW INSTAGRAM (32)

Mr Metson is looking for people who would be willing to come into school on the morning of 3rd June to talk about their UCAS/Uni experience, apprenticeship route or entry into the world of work.

It would give our current Year 12 students real insight into Post-18 pathways and make their decision-making a little less scary.

We’re looking for help any time between 9am and 11am on Wednesday June 3rd and we’re happy to fit in with you.

Please contact [email protected] if you could support this initiative. Thank you
