NEWSLETTER -13th MARCH 2026

News round up (4)

This week we have had the pleasure of reading the applications from our Year 12 students who have put themselves forward to be part of the student leadership team for next year. It has been genuinely humbling to read about the many ways in which our students support their local communities, as well as the personal challenges they are setting themselves and working hard to overcome. We are very proud of them. The next stage of the process will involve interviews and presentations to both staff and the current student leadership team. We wish all applicants the very best of luck and would like to congratulate them for stepping forward, taking a risk and putting themselves forward for these important roles.

Our Year 9 students have also had an important experience this week as they sat their assessments in the formal examination spaces used for GCSEs. This meant lining up before the exams and, in some cases, sitting one exam shortly after another. A few students mentioned to me that they felt it was quite demanding to complete exams back-to-back. When we talked about the fact that this is exactly what they will experience during their GCSEs, many began to appreciate why practising this now is so valuable. I am sure they are relieved that the assessments are finished, but I do not doubt that they will have gained a great deal from the experience.

Finally, we are once again dealing with some issues that have arisen through social media. May I please ask that you speak with your children about using social media responsibly and take time to check their accounts where appropriate. Your support in helping young people navigate the online world safely makes a significant difference. Advice on how to support your child to stay safe and use social media responsibly can be found here NSPCC

SPRING CONCERT

Wednesday sees students from all year groups come together to perform at our Spring Concert.  You may have seen the posts peppered across our socials this week hinting at the fantastic talent that will be showcased on the evening.

Tickets can be bought on ParentPay and on the door and it looks set to be an inspiring night of fabulous music.  With pieces being performed from popular hits such as Adel's Chasing Pavements and Cold Play's Viva la Vida to Show tunes such as Can You Feel the Love Tonight from the Lion King, it will be  joyous occasion for all.

You can grab some refreshments during the interval, served by the Friends of Charters team, and find out a bit more about what they do.

It will be a lovely way to spend a mid-week evening - we hope to see you there.

LITERARY FESTIVAL & SUMMER FAYRE

We are excited to announce that the Charters School Literary Festival & Summer Fayre will be taking place on Saturday 4th July, 12:00pm–4:00pm! This is set to be a fantastic community event, bringing together students, families, local businesses, and community groups – all in our beautiful school grounds. Funds raised will go directly towards supporting the school and enriching student experiences.

We would love your involvement in a few ways:

  1. Artisan Marketplace: If you run a small business and would like to be part of our artisan marketplace, pitches are available for £50. This is a great opportunity to showcase your products to a wide audience.

  2. Volunteering: We are looking for volunteers to help set up before the event, run a stall during the day, or help pack away at the end. Your time and support will make the day run smoothly and ensure everyone has a great experience.

  3. Donations for Prizes: If you have a business and could donate a sizeable item for our Summer Draw or Silent Auction, it would be hugely appreciated. While we’ll ask for tombola items closer to the event, at this stage, any prize donations, sponsorship, or creative ideas to make the day extra special would be fantastic.

If you can help in any of these ways, or know someone who might, please email us at [email protected] with your details.

We’re confident that this will be an enjoyable, lively day for the whole community, and we hope as many of you as possible will get involved to help make it a success!

Thank you in advance for your support.

Saturday 14 March – Cinema

11.00 am  Ponyo (U) – Kids Club so £3 for all.  This is animated and has the voices of Liam Neeson, Matt Damon, Cate Blanchett and loads of others.  And a cute story.

4.00 pm  I Swear (15) – sorry that we had been advertising on the banners that it was The Choral.  We’ll bring that next month, hopefully.  But I Swear is a brilliant British film based on a real story about a young man with Tourette Syndrome.  The lead actor recently won the BAFTA for best actor and it’s up for awards at the Oscars.   I haven’t seen it but do take from the title and the disability that there is going to be bad language.  But it’s very uplifting too!

7.30 pm  Sinners (15).  A horror/action film that has the most Oscar nominations ever!  It’s got to be good!

Please remember that my comments about the films are my own – and you can google to get a balanced view.

Lots of choice in the bar for drinks both non and alcoholic.  A reminder that ticket prices are £6 for adults and £4 for children under 14.  Tickets are available from www.ticketsource.co.uk/cordes-hall or on the door.  We have gone cashless so I’m afraid you now have to pay on the door and in the bar with a card.  Contactless no problem.  Always remember it’s a very friendly atmosphere at the Cinema so don’t be afraid to come on your own.  Or bring a gang!

Saturday 21st March – Spring Artisan Fair.  Doors open 10.00 – 4.00 pm and it’s free entry.  There’s always a good selection of stalls selling a variety of quality goods.

That’s it for March but now I’m going to preview some events coming up this year.

Friday 17 April there is a Quiz Night in aid of the charity My Cancer My Choices who support people in Berkshire with cancer by providing therapies to improve their wellbeing.  There is a poster with details on the website so check it out www.cordes-hall-sunninghill.org.uk/upcomingevents

Saturday 30 May we are very proud to present a one-man show called Chinese Boxing.  It sounds brilliant and there will be more about it in the next couple of months and on the website.

Friday 13 November – it’s George (Michael) & Elton (John) performing the Hits (courtesy of 2 fabulous tribute guys).  You can get tickets (and more information) for this already on www.ticketsource.com/cordes-hall.  We’ll update you throughout the year.

Finally, don’t forget all our weekly regular other groups – listed below.  Please contact them for info.  That’s it for now – hope to see you in the Hall soon!

Very best wishes,
Vanessa

HOPE FOOD SHARE

X template (15)

The Hope Church food share takes place each Tuesday from 12pm-1pm.

The items include mainly fresh food and bakery items donated from local supermarkets. The food is at the end of its shelf life (but still perfectly fine to eat!) and would otherwise just go to waste. Bring a bag to fill up, stop for a chat and a cup of tea (and cake!!) and warm up in the church. ALL welcome, no voucher/referral required.

Hope Church, Sunningdale, The Hope Centre, High Street Sunningdale, (next to Nag’s Head).
