Charters is developing a reputation for producing outstanding scientists; many of our students go on to study science-based undergraduate degrees in subjects as diverse as Medicine, Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering, Biochemistry and Mechanical Engineering after finishing their A Levels with us.

Our dynamic Science department is constantly developing their students' wider knowledge of their Science subjects, and encourages each individual to immerse themselves in their choose field of interest. Opportunities are rich and varied, and this week a group of engaged students took advantage of an invitation to join The Medical Society at Eton College, as they welcomed Tristan Fraser, a Trauma and Orthopaedics Registrar at Severn Deanery.

Read Year 11 student Emma's review of the evening below:

"As a student who loves Science and with aspirations to pursue a career in medicine, the Medical Society talks at Eton College provide an interesting and invaluable insight into different medical specialisms.

On Tuesday, I attended a talk delivered by Tristan Fraser, a Trauma and Orthopaedics Registrar in Bristol. His presentation was an insightful and engaging introduction to the field. He spoke with great enthusiasm about a day in the life of an orthopaedic surgeon practising to become a Consultant and talked through some real life examples, with visuals too.

At Kings College, Tristan was involved in developing strategies for peer-assisted learning and presented his work at large conferences.

It was interesting to hear about his journey, with setbacks along the way, reminding us that sometimes the path to where we want to go isn’t always an easy one and to never give up and stay focused on our dreams.

Thank you to Miss Lawson for arranging this opportunity and to Eton College for hosting the talk."

This sounds like a wonderfully engaging talk! For those interested in attending future events at Eton, please talk to your Science teachers.
