Innovative Drama Performances for Local Primaries
This week, our GCSE Drama students had the pleasure of welcoming two local primary schools to Charters School to watch a vibrant and imaginative series of short theatrical performances.

The production, devised and performed entirely by our GCSE Drama students, showcased 8 original pieces, each under ten minutes long, inspired by theatre for children, pantomime and puppetry. Together, the performances followed a fantasy storyline featuring aliens and spaceships, capturing the imagination of the young audience while also weaving in a gentle PSHE message around recycling and environmental awareness.

Staged in Drama Studio 1, complete with professional lighting, the event gave Year 6 students an exciting opportunity to experience live theatre in a secondary school setting. The performances were carefully designed to be accessible, engaging and entertaining, and the visiting students responded with enthusiasm, laughter and thoughtful discussion.
The initiative offered significant benefits for all involved. For our GCSE students, it provided a valuable opportunity to develop their skills in devising, performance, teamwork and audience awareness, while performing for a real, younger audience. For the primary schools, the experience encouraged creativity, supported PSHE learning and helped build confidence about the transition to secondary school.
We are particularly proud of the strong community links forged through this project and the professionalism shown by our Drama students throughout. We hope to make this collaboration an annual feature of our GCSE Drama programme, continuing to strengthen partnerships with local primary schools while providing meaningful, real-world experiences for our students.
Well done to all involved for making this such a memorable and inspiring event.
