A New Sign, A Shared Understanding
A new sign has recently appeared at Charters School, quietly but powerfully linking the Science Department with the Learning Support Centre. While simple in its design, the message behind it is anything but small. It represents connection, understanding, and a shared commitment to valuing every learner.
Science reminds us that all brains are different. Neurodivergence reflects natural variations in how people think and learn, and these differences are often strengths. This is especially true in STEM fields, where many neurodivergent individuals thrive, bringing creativity, focus and innovative problem-solving to their work.
By connecting these two areas, the sign highlights collaboration rather than separation, reinforcing that learning support is about empowerment and recognising individual strengths.

At Charters School, all individuals are intrinsically valuable — just like the first element on the periodic table, Au (gold). Gold is prized not because it tries to be something else, but because of its unique properties. In the same way, every student and member of staff brings inherent worth simply by being who they are.
The new sign is more than a directional marker. It is a statement of belief: that difference enriches us, science helps us understand one another, and together we create a school community where everyone belongs.
