It's All About Attitude

Our start of term assembly focused on some key priorities for the weeks ahead, including the importance of kindness and good attendance. Mr Fletcher also shared an interesting and thought-provoking message with students.

He invited us to imagine that each letter of the alphabet has a numerical value — A = 1, B = 2, C = 3, and so on. When you add up the letters in the word knowledge — a very fitting word for a school environment — the total comes to 96. A strong score, but not quite perfect.

Next came the phrase hard work. Another essential part of education, and this time the total adds up to 98 — even better, yet still not 100%.

So what does give us the full 100%?  Here’s the clue: 1 + 20 + 20 + 9 + 21 + 4 + 5 = 100

That's right  - 

...it's all about ATTITUDE...

Mr Fletcher then shared a powerful parable of unknown origin to help explain what the right attitude looks like.

A grandfather is talking to his grandchild and says..

"There is a fight going on inside you between two wolves.  One is angry, greedy, jealous, arrogant and cowardly.

The other is peaceful, supportive, caring, trustworthy, kind, modest, generous to others with their time and works hard."

The young grandchild thinks for a moment and says "which one will win?"

The grandfather replies "the one that you feed the most."

How we approach each day — the choices we make, the words we use, and the way we treat others — is what we are feeding within ourselves and those around us. It is these daily actions that shape our attitude, and ultimately make the difference.
