Year 12 students taking part in our Potential High Achievers Programme enjoyed an inspiring visit to Brasenose College, Oxford this week. The visit forms part of our Outstanding Sixth Form’s Oxbridge Pathway, a carefully structured programme designed to support students with the academic potential and ambition to consider applications to Oxford or Cambridge.

The Oxbridge Pathway combines university visits, opportunities to engage with current undergraduates and admissions staff, and ongoing guidance throughout students’ time in Charters Sixth Form. Together, these experiences help students develop confidence, academic curiosity and a clear understanding of what is required to succeed at the highest level.

Invitation to the programme is based on a student’s Average Points Score (APS) alongside aspirational A-level target grades, as shared in end-of-term reports. The APS reflects overall GCSE performance, measuring both achievement and consistency across subjects. When combined with ambitious post-16 targets, it provides a strong indicator of a student’s readiness for highly competitive university pathways.

During the visit, students gained valuable insight into the Oxbridge application process, explored college life, and learnt more about the intellectual curiosity, commitment and resilience expected of successful applicants.

A further visit to the University of Cambridge has been arranged for 20 January, when students will have the opportunity to visit Selwyn College and continue their exploration of Oxbridge study.
